ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Senior Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-DaBreo on Monday November 16, 2015 chided a young man, who allegedly stole a hubcap worth $25.

Orin Glasgow, 18, of Lower Estate, Tortola and who is known as ‘Tall Man’ is alleged to have stolen a hubcap from a jeep belonging to Gilbert Charles on January 7, 2015. He pleaded guilty to the charge and is to return to court on November 26, 2015 for sentencing.

Charged jointly with theft is Khadeem Blackmore who failed to show up to court on Monday.

The allegation is that on Tuesday January 6, 2015 in the evening, vehicle PG 338 was parked in a parking lot in Lower Estate and at about 12:30 am on January 7, 2015 the virtual complainant heard the sound of a vehicle and when he looked out he observed a ‘black male’ in a green Suzuki Vitara removing a silver object from the left side of his vehicle.

The court heard that when he later inspected his vehicle he discovered that one of his hubcaps worth $25 was missing. He then reported the matter to the Road Town Police Station and later that day the Police arrested Glasgow and his co-accused Khadeem Blackmore. They were both released pending further investigation.

According to the facts of the case, Blackmore was further arrested upon the completion of the investigations and during an interview he allegedly admitted that he needed a hubcap for his jeep and that Glasgow told him that he knew where he could get one. Glasgow was later apprehended a second time.

Glasgow was said to be employed as a trainee chef at Peter Island Resort and had previously pleaded guilty to an unrelated juvenile issue.

In chiding the young man the Magistrate said, “I cannot comprehend how you can risk your freedom for a $25 hubcap. You have your whole future ahead of you and you should not be messing with it. You should go and smack yourself behind the head!”

She further remarked that she was strongly advised against purchasing a similar model vehicle because of the prevalence of theft of its parts.
