HUNTUM’S GHUT, Tortola, VI – Principal of the Enis Adams Primary School (EAPS) Carleen B. Simmonds-Parsons told graduates of the 2014 graduating class that their life must be thought of as a business and as with any good business it must be invested in so that returns can be seen.

She delivered remarks at the school’s graduation held on Friday June 27, 2014 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Huntum’s Ghut.

“You must invest in your life in order to be successful,” she said. “Good investments you can make in your life includes building your faith, eating healthy, getting adequate rest and exercise, reading, study and practice, helping others and your community, being a positive team member at home, in school and in any group that you join,” she charged.

“Don’t let this short list limit you,” she said. “The investments you have and will make in your life are endless and this list will change as you evaluate and set new goals throughout your life,” she said.

“The acronym L.I.F.E. means living intentionally for excellence. This means that in everything you do you must do it to the best of your ability. You’re going to be willfully, purposefully excellent,” said Ms Simmonds-Parsons.

“The goals your have already set are years and years ahead of you and there is must learning to do to get there,” she said.

“Every test you take, every project you complete is an investment in the bright future you have planned for yourself. So don’t take things lightly…don’t forget to turn in your homework, don’t put the project down until the night before,” she warned.

She explained that everyone is a genius and may have talents in different areas. “If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid,” she said. “You too are a genius in something. Find [it] and pursue it,” she said to the 2014 graduating class.

Go put your head in an ant nest. You all are too miserable. Does it matter more about uniform than what the woman is trying to tell the kids? Oh please give it a break. Take your child in the yellow and gray September morning that is the uniform. Case closed.

I attended this ceremony as I was invited by my god-child. I don't know this lady, but the first few minutes of her speech was about her illness and not sleeping well and a lot of rambling about why she couldn't see properly. I was like-is this for real? It was like she was trying to divert the attention from the kids to her and I wondered if the audience was to send her sympathy cards or something. The demeanour was kind of like a dictatorship and if the setting was different, someone might have paid for her attitude (hopefully not the kids in her care). This might have been a one-off, but Mrs. Principal, my first impression of you was really not positive so pull your socks up.

People tend to oppose what they know to be good. People don't like order/rules and that is what you bring to the table. Continue to do the awesome job that you are doing.

The government is comprised of a handful of humans, they are just like all of us...doing good and bad. Sometimes strong, other times, weak. The difference is, they choose to become leaders. We, the people are the majority, therefore get off the criticism and bad-mouthing wagon and simply take a stand, and DO SOMETHING!
