ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Not even a full 24 hours after they were installed, the Christmas lights put up along Water Front Drive were cut by vandals.

Director at Caribbean Insurers Limited (CIL) Simone T. Monsanto told this news site yesterday December 5, 2015 that vandals have cut some of the decorative lighting placed along parts of Waterfront Drive just the night before.

The colourful and decorative lights were placed on the foliage along the sidewalk of Water Front Drive. It was planned that both sides of the entire stretch would have been completed by tomorrow December 7, 2015 following which the media would have been invited to a brief launch ceremony.

Speaking to this news site, Monsanto said that it was clear that the lights had been vandalised.

“Someone cut the lights after we put them up last night... And we have not even finished all of the areas,” she said.

She explained that a lot of sponsors came on board for the purchasing of the lights.

“It’s Caribbean Insurers Limited and kind business owners doing the venture and it’s not even finished as yet and already been vandalised,” said Monsanto, noting that such activities discourage community work.

She said that they were in the process of making a police report regarding the incident.

The sponsors for the lights are Auto Sales and Parts Ltd., One Stop Mall, CIL, Conch Charters Ltd., Conyers Dill and Permanent, Creque’s Insurance Agency Ltd., Digicel BVI, Mossack Fonseca and Co (BVI) Ltd., National Bank of the Virgin Islands Ltd., O’Neal Webster, Quami’s Sewing and Design, Scotiabank BVI, The Unique Flower Shop, Tortola Concrete Ltd., and VP Bank (BVI) Ltd.

Ignorant response! Just like the ignorant fools who can't appreciate when something good is being done for our community. Get lost under a rock where you belong!

what's with all the police cameras in road town; are police officers actually sitting in a room monitoring these cameras or do the officers review the footage only after a crime is committed... and this is my pet peeve, where are the police during the night in our city by day them all over handing out traffic tickets and come night you can't even see one of them patrolling our town...look like the more police we get the less you see them( just my thoughts nothing personal).... road town should be the safest place in this territory, in other countries you will see a heavy police presence in their capital but in BVI the police comes out in numbers only after the crime was committed

keep your opinions to yourself if you cannot be civil about it. Regardless of what you think of the celebrations, no one had a right to interfere with the lights. If you feel that people need to be educated about Christmas then don't you think it better to catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?

That's why you and those like you chose to vandalize them. You are the FUGLY ONE!

What is wrong with these people - they have no solid foundation in what is required in a civil society.

Go ahead and put up the other lights, do it on both sides, we going to monitor them. Never mind the haters. Jesus is the light of the World and we going celebrate Him with lights. He is the Light of lights. It doesn't matter when He was born we choose to celebrate now. It's the season of lights.

Well done the sponsors of these lights - lovely idea and well put together. Mend the vandalised lights and carry on. Whoever cut them anonymously will hopefully regret trying to spoil Christmas; and will make amends anonymously.

Let's not be racist now. The arabs are contributing to the development of the country too. It doesn't have to be an Arab. I could well be a local hater. Let's not judge.

this is just so sad and pathetic, something so simple that isn't hurting anyone, something that the kids would be so fascinated by to see the streets all lit up like that, something that would've encourage folks to park their cars and take a leisurely stroll down the side walk, ruined by some one who has no appreciation! who are you to go an vandalize efforts that you did not help to pay for or assist in putting up. You had nothing to do with the venture but u felt it your duty to cut these lights.... I guess you're gonna go around cutting folks lights on their porches and front yards next??? GROW UP!
