‘Would UK suspend VI Constitution if NDP is reelected?’ – caller to radio show

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A caller into the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) radio show ‘Let’s Talk’ on Wednesday December 10, 2014 asked whether the UK would suspend the Virgin Islands’ Constitution if the National Democratic Party (NDP) wins the next general elections.

The show, aired between 8:00 and 9:30 PM on ZBVI, was moderated by President of the VIP Carvin Malone and had as its guests Third District Representative and party Chairman Hon Julian Fraser RA and youth representative Rajah A. Smith.

“Is it true that because of the number of violations that the NDP Government has made of the Protocols for Effective Financial Management, if they get reelected would the UK suspend the Constitution as they did in the Caymans sometime back?” asked a caller to the show after the lines opened up.

In response to the caller, Hon Fraser said that he does not see the UK suspending the Constitution of the Territory for not meeting the requirements of the Protocols. “That is not a concern that I have,” said Hon Fraser.

Speaking on the matter, VIP President Malone said that there are specific guidelines any government would be faced with, in terms of hurdles to be crossed and markers to be met, for example debt servicing, debt levels, and cash reserves.

“And the biggest concern that we have is this whole concept that you spoke about, Hon [Andrew A. Fahie (R1)], spoke about and even Hon [Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9)] spoke about where you have a $100 million project, signed for $64 million, raised $35 million and then you driving a special purpose vehicle trying to get the rest of money,” he said.

“Where this is going to come from becomes a real concern to everyone because if it is allowed to continue and Government changes would the criteria of the Protocol be called on to be brought into line?” he asked. “Whether it leads to the suspension of the Constitution or not is a different story. But we have real concerns as to what happens at the end of 2015,” said Malone.

A few things.....about the cruise ship project...I heard the government is building wooden shops and paying out as if they were being built from concrete. Secondly, why is it our tax money that is going to end up paying for the port and the port is going to be run by a private company?

I hate to hear people coming on here talking about UK takeover and putting these things in the universe. UK only got eyes on us because we been feeding ourselves and got what the average UK citizen doesn't have. People aim to govern yourselves. VIP or NDP will be joke to what the UK wi9ll do to us. Wake up people. Stop the mad foolish talk. Aim to create a better BVI not one inviting the British in. It is so sad we do not know history. This is the same British who invested in slavery and endorsed apartheid in St. Africa. Time to stop being a king'slave in the 21st Century.

LOL...this a crusade to give the VIP "small people" some hope? Yesterday talking about stealing elections and now this.

What next? I'm sure its gonna be equally amusing.
