FRENCHMAN’S CAY, VI- Just over three years since the Roadtown Wholesale Trading Limited supermarket in Soper's Hole in Frenchman’s Cay was devastated by Hurricane Irma, a fully stocked and refurbished Harbour Market was reopened on Friday, February 5, 2021.

‘Coolest supermarket in the world’

“We are proud to serve you in this wonderful community and we certainly hope you enjoy the store, said General Manager of Roadtown Wholesale Trading Limited, Neil Hayes, who described Harbour Market as the coolest supermarket in the world.

“Why is it the coolest supermarket in the world? Well, this supermarket shares an incredible location, its front door only a few feet away from the world’s cleanest and clearest ocean, teeming of fish and sea life. This supermarket enjoys wonderful architecture. Not only do we sell pineapples inside but we have pineapples on the roof. The supermarket has the only staff lunchroom where you can sit and eat your lunch on the balcony and watch turtles swim in the marina,” Mr Hayes said in his brief remarks at the opening ceremony.

Meeting the needs of the community

Roadtown Wholesale's Operations Manager, Andrew Schuweiler commented that it has been a long time coming with the reopening of the supermarket but work only really began in earnest about four months ago, under the leadership of Mr Hayes.

Mr Hayes told VINO that Harbour Market is a relatively small store but they worked really hard to get as many products in to serve the community as best as they can.

“I think the team has worked incredibly well to make sure that we are in a position to serve the community as best as we can here.”

And as Mr Hayes had promised since November 2020, the store has a large range of products across two floors.  Downstairs has a wide range of fresh produce, fresh meat, chilled and frozen foods. Upstairs features a wine room and household staples.

Opening hours & promotions

The supermarket, which as a staff of 7, with manager Jacintha H. Weekes, will be opened 8:00am to 7:00pm every day and will also offer the same competitive prices for items as the other stores under Roadtown Wholesale Trading Limited.

Dawn J. Callwood, Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Roadtown Wholesale Trading Ltd, said for this week until next Saturday, customers who spend $25 and more at Harbour Market will receive a $5 coupon every time they shop that amount.

Further, she said all promotions will be across the board, including the current ‘Super 8 Deals’ promotion that runs from Wednesdays to Tuesdays.

Creativity & talent

Notably, customers who enter the second floor of Harbour Market can hardly miss beautiful paintings on the walls.

The paintings were done by Riteway employee Walden J. Benjamin.

“Thanks to the most creative and talented Riteway employee Walden Benjamin, this supermarket now has a permanent work of art painted on its walls which we hope will grace the store for the next 100 years,” Mr Hayes said.

I don't know why I got choked up seeing this beautiful display. Maybe it's because I am always shopping for my snack bar and always looking for new places to venture into. I will be there tomorrow with bells on...LOL. This store looks AMAZING and I am sure the people in West End appreciate the fact that they can shop near home. Congratulations and I want to see the beautiful art on the walls.

Why Virgin Branch can't look like this? Always looking like it run down.

Love the location. The set up reminds me of a supermarket named GIANTS I VISITED WHEN I WAS IN GERMAN HILL MARYLAND.

There's no German hill MD. There's germantown, but giant supermarket is not like the one featured here. Giant is literally a giant version of rite way supermarket. If you compared it to my Organic market (MOM) or whole food maybe you would be on to something but that too would be stretch. Just sounds like a jazzed up superrette for small town folks as a marketing ploy and you bit the bait.

Very nice set out, however can you say where is the population to sustain the supermarket. The yachting industry is close and there is not much population in the area.

It's the best place to shop and relaxation, we always on the run, stop and enjoy the beauty of our little secret.
Smile, and spend wisely, prices are getting better every day.

Live in the West area. I love it and I don’t have to go into the City to shop. Everything is super fresh, well stocked and have everything that is needed. They employees is super wonderful. Even if you don’t live in the area, you should check it out.

So wonderful to have somewhere close to home to shop, especially on weekends. I am sure the residents are happy. Jay you make me soo proud; a very respectful, focused and talented young man. Your art speaks mountains. Your Mama raised you well. Congrats RTW!
