ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A radio show caller insisted that the newly returned National Democratic Party (NDP) government work with the political Opposition, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), for the benefit of the territory going forward.

Speaking last Tuesday June 16, 2015 on the Speak Out BVI show aired on ZBVI 780 AM, the caller said, "keep with them (the VIP) close and everything will go smooth."

The VIP returns to the House of Assembly today June 23, 2015 with just two seats, down from three with the loss of the Ninth District following the decision by Ralph T. O’Neal OBE not to contest the elections, giving his main rival for the past four terms Dr Hubert O’Neal an easy win in that district.

The Opposition was further reduced by a seat with the loss of the Second District previously held by J. Alvin Christopher of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) to Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull of the NDP. Mr Christoper had chosen to run At Large and failed to win a seat.

With the House now comprising only the NDP and the VIP at a ratio of 11 to 2, the caller said it would be better for the two parties to avoid the fractious relationship between them that characterised the previous House of Assembly.

"If everybody live hand in hand then they could move together," he said.

The caller recalled the acrimonious arguments for and against the Government's borrowing of an unsecured loan from Social Security for the building of roads and said that he agrees with the idea since all will benefit.

He said when persons go to get their benefits they are often told that there is nothing there for them so he would rather the government use that money to build roads so that all, "the just and the unjust" would benefit.

Meanwhile, for the first time in VI political history, a new sitting of parliament will begin without an Opposition Leader named following the VIP's failure to agree on who should hold that post.

The First Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly is slated to begin at 10:00am at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex.

I believe in this caller to work hand in hand for the good overall as I have bee preaching. It is not about VIP, PEP, NDP but about the people. Remember the promises made to make a better BVI now turn these promises into action.

how can NDP work with VIP when the VIP can't even work with themselves BUT I get the point: its now about taking care of the country's business......

Now is not the time to crush VIP because you can, NDP. It is a time to compromise and respect people extra-hard to show you consider others. You will get further with patient respect than sheer power, force and disregard.

I listen to Legco today, everyone spoke well, All the ministers talk about their issues and challenges and promise us to act, to improve--One exception, The minister of health, mention nothing about health--wow--I said to my family at the lunch table--this dude mention nothing about health, the people`s biggest woe--wow---Kedrick addresses labour which was another woe for the people...I was not a fan of him, but I am proud of how he accepted the problems and promised to do something--unlike Ronnie

I don't even understand the reason for the caller statement. The NDP never gave any indication that they would not work with the opposition, if anything it appears that the opposition doesn't want to work with themselves.

We are blessed with the leadership of the current Gov.
Intelligent and not belligerent. He is humble.
His strength lies in his stillness and focus which steadies the team of likewise intelligent and accomplished self starters.
The VI is fortunate. Give Thanks! Everything is gonna be allright.
