Word of children’s plight leads to fundraiser for local organization
What they did not expect was to find themselves in a position of learning of the grave situations being faced by a number of families in the Virgin Islands, especially women and children, that would have caused them to explore further avenues to continually be of some help.
The promoters are Warren D. Wintz and Kacie V. Sampson aka Millennium King. Mr Wintz said that while they are hosting the All Black Everything to usher in the day that fathers are celebrated and would like to see an excellent turnout of residents, a family Fund Day scheduled for Sunday June 15, 2014 is something that they are looking forward to for a greater turnout as the funds would be donated to Family Support Network (FSN).
He said that the story of the three children who were left deserted at home to fend for themselves in East End Tortola, and having a glimpse of the annual budget of the support network have pushed them to do as much as they can to help.
“What we are likely to give may be a drop in the ocean but what I am sure of is the beginning of a partnership that who in the long run see us a two individuals impacting the lives of the needy in a significant way.”
They team is on a sponsor a meal drive for the event. “A person can pay for a ticket, have that ticket returned to us and for a given period when FSN finds themselves in a position in need of a hot meal for a family they call us up and we have a selected chef prepare those meal and we take it to FSN,” he said.
In addition the promoters would be donating all the proceeds from the gate along with other monies to FSN.
Guyanese DeeJay Bevaugn who will be the guest DJ for both promotions is expected to arrive in Tortola tonight and according to Wintz, the popular Guyanese DJ is all up-beat about the idea of playing a major role in the charity event. “He is really in for it and has been sharing a number of ideas and initiatives where he can chip in as well.”
Ms Judith Charles and Dr Sylvia M. Simmons of FSN were very impressed by the passion of the promoters to give back in some way. Ms Charles said that she is particularly pleased that the event seeks to bring families together on Father’s Day as society fails very often to recognize and honour the role men play in the lives of their children and families.
“This new partnership means everything, everything to us. It means that people are seeing the work we do and they respect it and that’s why they make the decision to support us,” said Ms Charles.
The family fun day will be held at the Greenland Field and will be featuring an expected hot match of 20/20 cricket between two of the leading teams in the Territory - Vincy and Vikings.
