Is this not the second time with in a month or two that people have been run down on this same crossing, maybe time to move it to a safer area, the people who decide where these crossing go need to be properly trained and put them in suitable places.

I agree to disagree. Yes the need to pay attention and wait for the driver to see them however in the drivers manual, drivers should always be vigilant when approaching zebras. So many if them just speed pass that area without a care in the world. Why should someone who is crossing the street on a zebra have to wait ON the zebra for a speeding car to pass? But immaculate drink up this tea.....

Sometimes these pedestrians do not use common sense; one day a pedestrian emerged from between two parked vehicles and walked straight across the road without even looking left nor right. As q pedestrian you must also look to make sure the driver of oncoming vehicle/vehicles are stopped before attempting to cross. Always make sure eye contact is made.

@Curious, I hope she is ok. The same thing happen to me. Someone just bolted out from nowhere. I had to hit the brakes real fast. I honk the horn and the person had the nerve to start cursing and would not move. Now, I would not do it but, I felt like stepping on the gas and lick the person down but of course I would have been in the wrong. How is it you are going to curse me out when you are in the wrong.

Ignorant stupid disrespectful drivers. Wow! U can't even be a pedestrian these days. Driver- keep up the dumb New York City like driving attitude. I guess the one of the MISS SENIOR MAGISTRATES will make you walk a respectful straight line this time.

@Afu, you sound like a rutting ram goat. How you are going to sit on your hard behind and call drivers ignorant, stupid and disrespectful. Many times people have darted out in front of me and look at me like I am the one in the wrong. I agree with the above blogger about sometimes you feel like stepping on the gas and hitting them for being in the wrong and then getting an attitude at the same time. I would not do that because I don't want to mess my car. But, I hope that the lady is ok.

Miss Diva needs to stop defending bad drivers, as one of yours may be crossing the road one day. You sound like an old conch coming out of its shell, ¤b€@h w¤m@n. Afu was right. It's time to stop this cutting off pedestrians in crosswalks.

Virtually every crossing in Tortola is dangerously located. The planners should be fired. Placing a crossing on a junction or worse a roundabout is extremely dangerous. Then you even get cars parking over the crossings and you cannot even see the pedestrians until its too late. Some one will be killed soon enough.

I feel for the pedestrian. But some of them do stupid things. One time i was driving through the green light by Mia Amor and two ladies walked across the pedestrian crossing like its nobody business.

They laugh at me when i told them they needed to wait for the walk signal. Then watched me as if daring me to run them down. We need laws for jaywalking.

I really feel your pain. I had the same experience at the SAME crosswalk with two young boys. My light was green and as I was approaching they sauntered across the road chatting away with nary a care in the world. I had to check the lights again but the boys were the ones colour blind not me.

I notice your post got 2 dislikes. The ladies maybe?

We need to educate our pedestrians. Many of them behave like they are made of iron.
Secondly, u can't have pedestrian crossings at intersections and roundabouts. That is just plain dangerous..
The technocrats in the ministry need to take a second look at the location of these crossings especially in town.

It is a very difficult place to cross you have to look behind you, then left then right while a vehicle is coming down the middle lane .then you still have to repeat all these before you step off. Just last week a drive flodded me with indecent languages because I waited until he came to a complete stop before I stepped off.

    1. Speed limit in Road town is 20mph, drivers often don't adhere.
    2. Drivers have to slow down before a pedestrian crossing, that should give you enough time to break early if needs be.
    3. She was hit on the pedestrian walk, whether or not she looked right or left, driver is still wrong.

I work around that area for bout six years and say about eight persons got run over. No matter what some of the comments say regarding other cross walks, this one is a dead end. You driving and you look right then left and right again and the person is right there. I do not blame the drivers who run them down as they just don't see them. The cross walk need to move up, just saying.

Without a doubt that crosswalk need to relocate a bit further up from the corner. When driving from the fire station side, the crosswalk begins in the blind spot on the left of your vehicle, making It difficult to see the pedestrians. Every driver can attest to that. I almost hit a guy there once cause I clearly did not see him.... so for the safety of everyone a relocation would be ideal

It's time for individuals to learn a bit more about traffic courtesy.

    1. When approaching a fixed stop sign. You must slow down.

    2. Do not stop on a cross walk-always keep clear especially when there is a line of traffic.

    3. The Rule is (i.e at juncture such as the one at First Bank & Scotia) the first one at the stop is the first one to leave the stop.

    4. Wait your turn at a fixed stop (refer to 3.)

5.Recognize what a stop sign is an follow accordingly.

    6. If all else fails use common sense...,
