LERKENLUND , St Thomas, USVI — Police on Wednesday (August 29, 2018) arrested a man and charged him with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime, after investigators determined that the man had struck and killed his girlfriend several days earlier, VIPD Public Information Officer, Glen Dratte has announced.

According to Mr Dratte, on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at approximately 5:06 PM, officers were dispatched to Lerkenlund in St. Thomas in reference to an unresponsive female.

Upon their arrival, the officers observed an unresponsive female on the floor of the apartment, Mr Dratte said.

Emergency medical technicians were present on the scene and concluded that the female did not have any vital signs.

Mr Dratte said police spoke with the boyfriend, identified as 40-year-old Christopher Smith, as part of their investigation. Mr Smith said he woke up the morning of August 25, 2018, and found his girlfriend unresponsive, according to police.

However, an autopsy performed on Tuesday revealed that the victim, identified by next of kin as 35-year-old Regina Powell, had suffered blunt trauma to the head area and died. With the new information in their possession, VIPD officers arrested Mr Smith pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by the Magistrate Court of the Virgin Islands.

He was later remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing, according to Mr. Dratte.

This was not the first lick she received from his hands. But is surely was her last. People staying in abusive relationships is not right. We need to speak up.

Prayers go out to her loved ones. This is quite sad. I don't know about her being an outcast but she was very tough, independent, and mature in her youth.

Be it he is here legal or not, his A++ is going to feel the wrath when he is in general population. In the US JAMAICANS is not liked. For real, people in America do not like or care for JAMAICANS. Why you say that about her, she was a nice young beautiful woman full life, not because one might had a misfortune early in life that means they are outcast. Some ppl just make the wrong choices not really about a negative outcome. This young lady was a daughter, mother, sister, niece, cousin and many many friends and believe the holy Jehovah. So don't put her in a bad light. My Condolences to my Friend Jacket and the rest of the Family. TOLA BOY

Sorry, not to putting her in a bad light. She was a good person but she just wasn't treated good in her younger years by people who should have, and it's really sad.
