Woman allegedly assaults police during domestic violence arrest
Virgin Islands News Online was informed that officers were investigating reports of a disturbance involving a woman and her husband when they reportedly witnessed the woman hitting her husband. Police then proceeded to arrest the woman; however, she reportedly resisted, hurled indecent language towards the officers and allegedly reached to the point of assaulting one of the officers.
Police subsequently confirmed the reports.
According to Police Information Officer, Akia L. Thomas, on April 6, 2020, at around 11:44 pm, police arrested and charged Idalia Hodge of Long Trench, Tortola, for Assault on Police, Resisting Arrest, Indecent Language and Common Assault.
Hodge, according to Ms Thomas, was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with one signed surety. She is to appear before the Magistrate's Court on April 30, 2020 at 9:00 am.
Police respond to several cases of domestic violence
Sources within the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) have told our newsroom that over the first two days of the territory-wide lockdown the RVIPF responded to no less than five disputes at homes around Tortola alone.
“The premier said that in most of the reported cases the men are the culprits but I can tell you we have been seeing women to women lovers getting into fights, women starting fights with their boyfriends and husbands, men who share one apartment getting into conflict that police have to be called in to deal with,” said one source who asked not to be named.
The source further related, “We have women and men getting jealous of each other being on their phones, man throwing his woman’s phone in the bush, men pulling weapons on each other and all this is because of the tensions caused by the lockdown.
“The lockdown is for a very good cause but it’s sad to say that many bad things are happening even with the good the government is trying to do. We have issues, serious domestic issues and many are not being reported. I am even scared to think about the sexual assaults that are taking place in some homes,” expressed our source.
International bodies are also reporting steady spikes in domestic abuse around the world. This is being described as “Acting like an opportunistic infection, flourishing in the conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“There was every reason to believe that the restrictions imposed to keep the virus from spreading would have such an effect,” said Marianne Hester, a Bristol University sociologist who studies abusive relationships.
“Domestic violence goes up whenever families spend more time together, such as Christmas and summer vacations,” she said in a New York Times article published yesterday April 5, 2020.
'Work on relationships' – Premier Fahie
Addressing the Territory yesterday afternoon, April 6, 2020, Premier Fahie said it’s a small pocket of persons engaging in domestic violence around this time and singled out the men as the primary culprits.
“I want to speak to you my brothers directly. You must stop it. Stop it. This cannot be. You cannot be abusing our females, it is wrong. You cannot be abusing our children; it is wrong,” said Premier Fahie, while adding, “God did not put you in the role where you are to be abusive. You are there to build stronger homes and stronger families, not to be a stronger monster. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
“Whether it be sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, do not abuse. Ladies and gentlemen only share BVILove. While you are home, pray more. Talk more. Resolve more. Love more.”
Premier Fahie said that while home during these two weeks, person should work on bettering their relationships.
“Get to know each other. Let us now turn our houses into our homes because a house is only the four walls, but a home is where there is peace and positive relationships. Read your Bible or a good book. Let us get each other through this mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually."
“We want when COVID-19 is finished that the BVI would have conquered the virus and all the negativity will be gone from our islands. We will have better relationships, stronger bonds, a stronger relationship with GOD and a stronger economy. I want to encourage us to take care of each other so that we all cross the finish line together,” Premier Fahie said.

God's spirit cannot come near wickedness and does not help wickedness to flourish.
Please go and read your Bible and stop calling God's name in vain.
I hear that because real men must have their own crib: you can be out there ^&%$# around them have crawl into a house with the other female: the females comes to your chambers get the thing and leave: if you have children with the woman simply take very good care of your children
Take this time to review your life and choices and make better ones.
Times like this we all need to come together and love and help one am other.
“times like this we all need to come together and love and help one another”: the side thing is simply helping
Sidechicks needs to leave married men, ppl man alone agreed no dispute there but how about this men cheat without fear because their wives and girlfriends ain't gonna leave them when they do.
STOP only ridiculing the other woman, ridicule the women in the home who are accepting this type of behavior. Blame the men for starting it by not being content with the woman he chose to share his living space with.
If ppl stop excusing it, encouraging it, empowering it it will stop. If one woman refuses another one will not, the problem is nor only the women on the outside but the men and the acceptance from.the women on the inside.
Think about it
