SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI - The Wolues F.C, participants in the BVI Football Association’s Premier League, made a donation of new equipment to local Youth Football Organisation, the Manatee’s, on Saturday May 17, 2014 at the Roger Allen Hodge Park in Sea Cows Bay.

The donation was made possible following the successful fundraising during the visit of ex England and Liverpool footballer, John Barnes, last year.

The Manatee’s has been in operation for nearly 10 years and is now based at the Roger Allen Hodge Park in Sea Cows Bay after beginning life at Nanny Cay and then the Moorings.

As Walter Reich, who coordinates the programme explained, “We began as a group of volunteers, both fathers and mothers as we thought it important to give back to the community and also help to develop the youngsters. Some of the kids have been with us since the start and you can see the improvements they have made and skills they have developed.”

Reich added that the programme would never have lasted so long without the support of the volunteer coaches, who give up their Saturday mornings week in and week out.

Nick Messum, Chairman of the Wolues and a few other team members made the presentation of equipment including much needed Balls, Cones, Training items and even some Referees whistles.

“This is part of the Club’s long term plan to promote the game and get kids playing,” he commented. “We are happy to do a lot of fundraising and had a fantastic time when John Barnes came over. We want to do something every year and will do as much as we can to help the Manatee’s or any other club that needs help.”

As for future fundraisers Messum said that plans were in the pipeline to bring over another International player.

The Manatees practice every Saturday from 8.45am on the field at Sea Cows Bay and parents are welcome to bring their children along and be a part of a very successful club that thrives on a safe fun secure learning environment along with dedicated volunteer coaches and supportive parents.
