ROAD TOWN, Tortola , VI – Leslee J. Smith’s Bristol Flyers continued to struggle whilst Deon J. Edwin and Norville ‘Banana’ Carey enjoyed successful starts to the College Basketball Season with the Kent State Golden Flashes and Rider University Broncs respectively.

Broncs freshmen Dimencio Vaughn(New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School), Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) and Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) all scored in double figures as the Rider University men’s basketball team came back to defeat Wagner, 70-67, Saturday evening at Spiro Sports Center. With the road victory, the Broncs improve to 3-2, while the Seahawks slip to 2-3.

Carey (Virgin Islands/Red Lion Christian Academy [Southern Mississippi]) led the Broncs with eight points in the first half, while Tayor, Washington-Ives, Marshall and Jordan all added four points apiece. The Broncs shot 58.3 percent (14-24) in the first half, but were hampered by a 9-1 deficit in offensive rebounds that manifested itself into a 13-0 discrepancy in second-chance points.

The Broncs return to action Thursday, December 1, 2016 when they open MAAC play against Fairfield.

Edwin wins but Smith loses again

Meanwhile, Deon J. Edwin picked up 3 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists as Kent State University men's basketball team (4-2) won its final game of the Gulf Coast Showcase, defeating the Wofford Terriers (1-4), 66-59, Wednesday November 23, 2016 in Germain Arena.

Leslee J. Smith and the Bristol Flyers suffered another loss to the visiting league leading Newcastle Eagles 67-102. Brandon Boggs led the home team with 16 points.
