ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The second round or Super 8’s of the LIME Super Fast League got underway on Sunday April 26, 2015 at Greenland Playfield with wins for Vincy C.C. and Grenada C.C. in the remaining two groups of four.

The first game between Earl Tree Shotters and Vincy C.C. saw Rohan Blake and Sessie Ells rebuilding the innings and reaching 60 after ten overs, following the Vincy grabbing three early wickets. Their 48-run partnership was broken by Xavier Turby, who had Blake (15) caught by Brent Defreitas and then bowled Phillip Jacobs with his next delivery.

Worse was to come as Rudolph Davis (10) then ran himself out unnecessarily and the Shotters innings was back in the mire at 74-7. Bryan Daley added some late momentum with some lusty blows, to finish 48 not out and with Ells (81 n.o. including six fours and seven sixes) for company saw the total reach 170 from their 20 overs.

Xavier finished with 2 for 42 and Defreitas 2 for 23.

Fast start for Vincy

In reply, Vincy opened with Monty Butler and Sylvester Mitchell who slammed their way to 34 from the first three overs, but Mitchell fell for 21, attempting another big hit in the fourth over bowled by Franklyn James. Butler kept attacking and reached his personal fifty that included six fours and four sixes in the 7th over, but he fell in the next over for 56 and Dennisford Brown followed three balls later to leave the Vincy reeling at 105 -4.

Skipper Austin McDowall steadied his ship and saw his team reach 150 in the 15th over and then to victory with an unbeaten 60 that included six fours and four sixes.

Daley finished as the pick of the Earl Tree Shotters’ bowlers with 4 for 44.

Half century for Redhead

In the second game, Derol Redhead, the current holder of the Nagico Green Cap for Most Runs in the Tournament, smashed his way to a half century inside the first seven overs after Grenada were invited to bat first by the New Testament Church of God (NTCoG).

The opening stand reached a hundred in the 9th over before Redhead fell for 69 (7 fours and 5 sixes), caught by Kenron Baptiste, bowled McTair James, but opening partner Denron Daniel continued where Redhead left off and reached his half century in the 13th over with consecutive sixes off slow left armer, Timron Robinson.

Robinson got his revenge, enticing Daniel (57 including 5 fours and 4 sixes) out of his crease and seeing Cameron Williams gleefully whipping off the bails.

Rodney Marryshow then became the third half centurion of the innings and brought up the team's double century in the 17th over with a big six.

Thirty two runs came off the 18th over, 250 reached in the 19th, with Marryshow hitting four, six, six, four and Dave Johnson joining in the fun with another maximum, before Marryshow fell for 88 (7 fours and 8 sixes) in the last over.

Travis Jack ended with 2 for 45.

No chance for NTCoG

Chasing 274 for victory the NTCoG were always behind the “8” ball and self destructed in a mad dash for runs.

46-2 after 5 overs included just two singles and 56-3 after 6 still only two. Ferris Pope fell for ten, bowled by Green Cap for Most Wickets owner, Rodney Marryshow, but 68 for 4 after 7 overs still only included four singles.

Earl Prescott fell first ball, bowled by Rodney Modeste to make it 68 for 5, opening batsman, Shem Ellis fell for 19 in the 8th over to reduce the Church to 72 for 6 and Baptiste became Modeste’s second victim in the next over (74 for 7), before Jack  brought up the Church hundred in the 11th over. He fell for 24 in the 12th over and despite further late resistance by Kenny Cain (18 not out), the chase ended at 126 all out and defeat by 147 runs.

Modeste finished with 3 for 16 and Marryshow 2 for 53.

Next Sunday, May 3, 2015 will see Police facing Royal Knights at 11am and then that game will be followed by a repeat of last year’s final with Cavaliers playing Vikings at 3pm.
