Wins for Cavaliers & Under the Tree in FLOW Superfast LTE Cricket
The U15 Youth Academy won the toss in the first game against Under the Tree and showing great confidence, opted to bat first, posting 106 -4 from their 20 overs, led by a courageous and entertaining 22 from Kemal Pancho, 23 from Marcus Butler, and 26 not out from Jerome Pereira.
Pancho’s innings drew the ground to fever pitch with many memorable pulls, drives and square cuts, including one where having been hit on the helmet the previous ball, he stood his ground and punched the next delivery to the fence.
Butler too was looking determined and used his feet to nudge, dab and remain almost unbeatable, before trying to up the ante late on against pacer, Travas Jack, himself a former Youth team player, only to see his stumps splattered.
The pick of the Under the Tree bowlers was Jack, who picked up 2 for 7 from his 4 overs.
In reply, Under the Tree were made to work much harder than expected for their win by some clever bowling, using the principals of straight and full to cause havoc amongst the top order as well as some athletic fielding.
Marcus Butler in particular pulled off an outstanding catch, running, diving and rolling at mid-wicket to dismiss Shem Ellis off the bowling of Trent Olive for just 2, to leave Under the Tree reeling at 59-4.
However, Rudolph Davis, who scored a century in the defeat of the Vikings, was in no mood to let the youngsters pull of a surprise, but deserved win, by smashing an undefeated 46, to steer his team home for a five-wicket win.
Cavaliers get the better of Grenada
The Premier League encounter between Grenada and the resurgent Cavaliers saw the spice boys slip to defeat by 4 wickets having batted first and set the Cavaliers 153 to win.
Brian Daley top scored with 34, that included 8 boundaries, but the controversial run out of Derol Redhead for 20, took the steam out of the innings and only Kitason Francis with 23 plus some late hitting by Trent Belfon took the score to anything remotely defendable.
Royston Duggin picked up 3 for 31 and Jagnerine Persaud 2 for 27.
Gary Pierre Prince did his best with the ball to dent the Cavaliers march to victory, with 3 for 27, but at the half way stage the score was 97 with 7 wickets in hand, allowing first Dromar Toney, with 34 and the more belligerent Christianand Dhanpaul, 17 of 8 balls and Aaron Baker, 17 of 12, to secure the victory with both time and wickets in hand.
Next week, Sunday March 5, 2017 sees Grenada battle it out with the Royal Knights at 10:00 AM and then Vikings meet Island Stars at 2:00 PM.
