GREENLAND, Tortola, VI – As the BVI Cricket Association (BVICA) FLOW Superfast LTE 20/20 Cricket Tournament continued at the Greenland Recreational Ground on Sunday February 5, 2017 there were wins for Island Stars and Cavaliers.

The first game of the day, a Division One encounter, saw the National Youth Academy team take on the Spartans, with the Youngsters, most of whom are U15, rattling up 131 batting first.

Jerome Pereira hit 70, with his half century coming off 26 balls and Kemal Pancho 11.

Xavier Turby, Wayne Phillips and Gregory James all picked up two wickets.

In reply, the Island Stars lost Dennisford Brown early, caught Rose, bowled Harsh Banthia for 5, but Sheldon Joyce and Dorian Auguiste both compiled unbeaten half centuries, rode some dropped catch luck and saw their team home for a 9-wicket win.

Auguiste finished on 66 and Joyce 54.

Cavaliers overcome Royal Knights

In the Premier League, the Royal Knights decided to bat first against the Cavaliers and were soon in deep trouble at 94-5, with only Ryan Mangal making a meaningful top order contribution of 38.

Reno Mittzelholder, batting at number 8, made 22 and Joel Lafleur 20 as the Knights then clawed their way up to 176.

Christianand Dhanpaul finished with 3 for 29, Aaron Baker 2 for 26 and Vin Rambarsose 2 for 42.

It was a below par compared to the previous week’s premier league scores of over 200, but it turned out to be a defendable and testing score for the cavaliers to chase down.

They lost both openers early in the reply before Kwesi Sinclair scored a breezy 23 to be third man out with the score just 29, but the Domar Toney and Vishal Bharat began to rebuild the innings, with Toney in particular enjoying some big hits on his way to a match winning 87 not out, including 14 boundaries and 4 maximums.

Bharat fell for 18 and Jagnarine Persaud hit a breezy 25 to put the nails in the Royals coffin and get the season off to a 5-wicket victory.

This Sunday, February 12, 2017, Grenada face RTW at 10:00 AM, whilst at 2:00 PM, Under the Tree take on Vikings.
