Win & loss for BVI Girls in ECVA Beach Volleyball

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The BVI Pairs of Lauren Welch/Tamisha Georges and Tyalia Nibbs/Amadona Creese suffered mixed fortunes on the opening day of the ECVA Women’s Beach Volleyball Zonal Phase strong at beautiful Castaways Beach, Antigua, on Friday May 1, 2015.

St Lucia, top seeded of the event, and Antigua and Barbuda had a pass in the first round of triple elimination and both enjoyed winning their only series of the day in round two, defeating BVI and Grenada respectively.

French St Martin beat Dutch St Maarten in the first round and then prevailed over St Vincent in a Golden Set, while Dominica beat Bermuda and St Kitts and Nevis.

St Lucia’s Dala Noel and Kerin Neptuno defeated Nibbs and Creese 2-0 (21-7, 21-7); while Lisa Casimie and Jamilla Lansiquot defeated  Welch/Georges 2-0 (21-11, 21-9), to conclude the series with a 2-0 score.

BVI cruise past Antigua

Earlier, the BVI had cruised past Anguilla, 2-0, with Welch/Georges defeating Rikiesha Leveret/Kenvia Hodgen AGU-B 2-1 (12-21, 21-17, 15-13) and Nibbs/Creese defeating Janai Gumbs/Eva Hodge AGU-A 2-0 (21-14, 21-16).

Antigua and Barbuda prevailed over Grenada 2-0 with Mali Peters and Rosemarie Simon beating Shakira Collymore and Deanne John 2-0 (21-12, 21-17); and Sharon Payne with Naheeman Wilson defeated Thornia Williams and Renisha Stafford 2-0 (23-21, 21-16).

Today's schedule begins with the series in the losers’ bracket, with St Kitts and Nevis facing Anguilla and Bermuda against British Virgin Islands.

St Lucia then take on Antigua and Barbuda and French St Martin face Dominica in the winners bracket.

The Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association -ECVA- Women Beach Volleyball Zonal Tournament, forms part of the NORCECA Continental Cup Olympic qualification.The ECVA Women’s duos will be aiming to reach the next round in which the top six teams will face CAZOVA’s (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association) top six, the first event of the Interzonal Phase.

A total of twenty two teams, representing eleven countries, were confirmed to compete during the registration session which included the evaluation of paperwork and uniforms.
