‘Willy T’ Dec 30th, 2018, eviction deadline looms; now in negotiations

The Public has been outraged at how a small local business is being pushed around by the NDP Administration over big foreign companies. The move reinforces the perception that the Dr D. Orlando Smith-regime does not support local businesses or people, rather prefers to be ‘in bed’ with expat big businesses. Photo: VINO/File

GREAT HARBOUR, Peter Island, VI - Months after William Thornton aka ‘Willy T’—a floating restaurant and bar—owned by Ms Heather L. Anderson, a belonger of the Virgin Islands, with her husband Ewan C. Anderson, who manage the business, was forced from ‘The Bight,’ off Norman Island, the couple is still in limbo.

In November 2018, Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) reported of their plight, however, even as the couple managed to find a new location for their business, they were forced to move yet again from their new home at Great Harbour, Peter Island.

The National Democratic Party (NDP) Government evicted them from their second home, because of pressure from the Owners of Peter Island Resort and they were given a deadline of December 30, 2018, to find a new location.

In negotiation for more time

Today, December 27, 2018, in an Exclusive interview with Manager Ewan, he told VINO that he is keeping his “fingers cross, as we are in negotiation with the government to stay at least until the summer of 2019 at our current Peter Island location.”

While he noted that nothing is finalised, the business owner said he did not want to say anything that could potentially “jeopardise the talks with Government.”

Over the months, the Public has been outraged at how a small local business is being pushed around by the NDP administration over big foreign companies.

The move reinforces the perception that the Dr D. Orlando Smith-regime does not support local businesses or people, rather prefers to be ‘in bed’ with expat big businesses.
