ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Sport Company of T&T, T&T Cricket Board, and Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) have targeted at least $US150, 000 from the upcoming charity T20, which is geared towards befitting victims of the recent hurricanes that have devastated sections of the Caribbean.
The match, which has been scheduled for the Queen’s Park Oval, on Saturday, October 14, 2017 is expected to feature some of the region’s biggest T20 stars.
Former West Indies T20 captain Darren Sammy will serve as captain of one team, while star all-rounder Kieron Pollard will captain the other.
The match is also expected to feature the likes of the big-hitting Jamaica star Chris Gayle and also track and field World Champion Yohan Blake.
Dinanth Ramnarine the former West Indies Players Association (WIPA) president and head of SporTT said the game was an example of the power of sport to serve as a unifying factor.
“It is with this resilient and generous spirit that the Government of T&T, through the SporTT, alongside T&TCB and QPCC have come together to support the relief efforts by hosting a benefit cricket match between a West Indies XI and the T&T XI,” Ramnarine said.
“The intention of this charity match is to use sport as the unifying force for good that we all know it is and can be.”
In addition to the proceeds of the match, other items can also be donated as well or persons can make other financial donations to the Cricket Hurricane Relief Fund account at First Citizens Bank #2441289.
