DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – The 2016 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League Championship Series will be a repeat of the 2015 Finals, as both the Splash Brothers and West Gunners won their respective Divisions on Wednesday October 26, 2016 at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom.

First up on Wednesday October 26, 2016 the West Gunners, always favourites to overcome a tenacious Warrias, who were surprised West Conference Finalists after beating Momentum in the play offs, secured their chance to be first ever repeat League Champions, with an 88-80 win in game two.

The game was blown open after an evenly matched to and fro, at the end of the third quarter, when Ray D. Victor and Nicols C. Charles went on a scoring spree to see the score 65-53. At the start of the fourth, Shaquille T. Fonseca, Chaurbin V. Smith and Shakeem Blackmore inspired a Warrias fight back and got to within a point at 72-71.

Despite losing Douron Phillip, fouled out, the Gunners responded through Victor’s shooting prowess and some tough defense, including big blocks by Devonte Furlong, to re-open a 7-point lead, 81-74, and although there was still time for a little free throw madness, the Gunners held onto to win 88-80.

Victor notched 21 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists, Nicols C. Charles added 16, Gerrard Vanterpool 14, Romain Minott 12 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and Devonte Furlong picked off 10 rebounds

Shaheem Blackmore scored 20 points for the Warrias, whilst Fonseca finished with 12, Nigel Todman grabbed 14 rebounds and Delbert Samuel 10.

Splash Brothers see off Next

Splash Brothers had scraped into the play offs with a late surge and a re-arrangement of their Coaching staff, but in true style the East Division title became theirs with a 91-81, win in game three and a 2-1 series win over the number one seeded Next.

Steve E. Parillon has had much to do with the late run of form and he led the Brothers with 29 points and 15 rebounds, Abrey Daniel added 22 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists, whilst Ashfield Frett scored 17 and Shamoi A. Dagou 15

Next got 34 points and 9 rebounds from Killven M. Samuel, and 19 from Stephon S. Caul with 11 rebounds. Enrico Harrigan grabbed 10 rebounds.
