West Gunners secure top spot in SCBBC Showcase League!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With a 54 -40 win over HLSCC Stingrays on Friday October 19, 2012, West Gunners ensured they remained unbeaten during the regular season and pipped Phillipinas to top spot in the standings.

Off to a quick start in the first quarter, West Gunners were then pegged back by Stingrays to be just 1 point up. However, a blow out 15-4 second quarter saw them take an ascendancy that was never seriously threatened.

The 12 point margin (28-16) at the half was comfortably maintained at the end of the third (37-25) and then increased to a final margin of 14 at the buzzer.

The Stingrays had their moments, but any serious challenge was thwarted by a well marshaled defense and words of encouragement from Coach Andrew Fahie, who was able to re-focus his team at crucial stages in the latter minutes.

Top Scorers for the Gunners were Alexander Jarvis with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and Delvin Leonard who scored 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks. Dashan Hodge also had  10 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist and Kyle Abraham 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 assists

For HLSCC,  Mikey Joseph led the way with  15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist and 1 block.  Rushawn Johnson added 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block and Videl Farrington 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block.

In Friday’s second game, Albion's Phillipinas beat  Lower Estate's Rangers 59- 53. Clark Santillan scored 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 5 assists. Louie Poblete notched 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists and Lucky Reyes contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 assists.

For Lower Estate, Nauraldo Mc Cleary hit 12 points, 12 rebounds, Trayvonne Gumbs 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, 7 assists and Dwayne Jennings 10 points and 8 rebounds.

On Saturday, Stingray’s clinched the final place in the top four when Lower Estate Rangers failed in their bid to beat Hannah's Triple Threat, going down 41- 32.

Rangers had given themselves an outside chance of displacing the Stingrays in the play offs when they beat Real Tool 52-45 the previous Friday. In the game, Dwayne Jennings scored 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steals and 1 assist, whilst Kellon Fortune added 13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist,  Trayvonne Grant 4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist and Jorden Jack 7 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

The top Scorers for  Real Tool were  Justin Solomon with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist,  Nathan Rodney, who recorded 8 points, 15 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist, Caleb Leonard, who finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists and Rolando Rodgers, who had 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Stingrays also beat Real Tool the following day 77 – 39 to put themselves ahead in the race for the final spot in the standings thanks to  Tyree Maduro’s  15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals,                  Joseph’s 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals and 1 assist and Johnson’s 7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

For Real Tool Rodney had 13 points and 7 rebounds, Gianni Maduro 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists and Rodgers  8 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks

West End put down an early marker for play off supremacy when they beat Hannah’s 49-34 with Jamari James scoring 10 points, 1 rebound, 4 steals, 2 assists and 3 blocks,  Jarvis 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists, Abraham 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks and Leonard 8 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist.

For Hannah’s, Mario Peters scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 assists and Paul Linton 8 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks.
