We were never a people of bloodshed – LL resident Isiah Tweed
“I want to alert you all about something that is very important to me… you know the Long Look Stickette is a very historical notion and I recognised that we had one of the greatest soft ball teams in Greenland and we also had one of the baddest basketball teams that ever existed in the BVI and this was the place that we played (where Stickette is),” Tweed noted.
Tweed also cried out for help for himself, saying each member of the community could help the other.
We were never for blood shedding
“We were never a people that use to perpetrate blood shedding, gunshot, once in a while we had a fight. Today we are having some diplomatic complications here in Long Look, it’s totally disheartening… when you think about Long Look people …. And if you observe that most of these problems had not related to Long Look people.”
He added “We were never a people of bloodshed and fights. We are a people who stuck together in everything we do. Our history is made up of people who stand tall in BVI history. This crime is not ours. Most of the crime that is happening, it's by people who are not from this community; they brought the crime.”
It was on November 17, 2016 that 24 year old Estevan Jefferson was gunned down while in the vicinity of the Stickette. The killing brought back gruesome memories of the shooting death of Cornel Melbourne Francis' who was gunned down on the night of May 9, 2013 while at the Stickette.
Meanwhile, Mr Tweed was not scheduled to perform on the Christmas Chorale programme but won the favour of one of the MCs and was given a chance at the microphone. He did not only touch hearts with the aforementioned but did some medleys, one of which reminisced on the “acrostic of Christmas” the way he said his mother taught him to sing.
Many were present at the event including retired legislator and cultural icon Mrs Eileene L. Parsons OBE and Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Dr The Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7).
They were entertained by the Prophetic Sounds, RVIPF Community Police Clyde Potter, who is also a resident of East End, Dalan Vanterpool, Aaron Da Jedi and Bmore, among others.
