ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Outspoken social commentator, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline who hosts the popular ‘Honestly Speaking’ radio show on ZBVI 780 am, says it is imperative that the Virgin Islands (VI) get itself ready to defend against heightening pressure from those in the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament seeking to impose policies on the territory.

Skelton-Cline, who is also a strong supporter of the Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) led Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government says, the VI must also look into strengthening its current key industries such as tourism and finance since those are critical to the territory’s economy.

Dragged through the Mud

“What we cannot afford in these Virgin Islands is to be dragged through the mud of the royalist ship that seems to be case in the UK, we need to be here on the heels and being proactive in determining our own future and our own destiny,” he told his listening audience on the Tuesday, March 19, 2019, edition of his show.

According to Skelton-Cline the territory must be prepared to fight against, “The parliamentary committee that is pushing this left-wing kind of construct on the same-sex marriage issues, on the belongership issue, on the beneficial ownership issue…"

While he said the issue of beneficial ownership has been tempered down, he noted that “it is incumbent upon us here in these Virgin Islands, to get our financial house in order, reinvest, enhance and expand our tourism product our real bread and butter the one thing that cannot be outsourced,” the man of the cloth pointed out.

Non-Starter

“The belongership status that some in the UK parliament wish to remove in a non-starter… the whole notion that UK residents or those who hold a UK passport residing here should then have the right to vote… and on top of that be able to seek elected office is a non-starter,” he said.

He implored that those type of pressure coming out from the UK can help the territory pivot directly and sharply towards self-determination and an independent path to determine its own future.

“That kind of unmitigated gall… by some of the UK parliamentarians is just unbelievable and downright ridiculous,” he said. He reiterated that the UK policy will not be effective and the only discussions that the VI should be entertaining around the issues is to ensure that it never happens.

    If the governemt had not made such a dishonest mess of things then the UK office would not even be involved.
    Don't blame them for a mess you guys made!
    I agree the issues around belonger rights etc are a non starter , but the rest of the issues are real and completely the fault of the old boys club!

    Just like how Jehovah God does not yoke homosexuals together, he does not yoke adulterers together. Jehovah says honor what he yoked together. That means dishonor what he did not yoke together. It is blasphemy to associate His Holy Spirit with what is evil.

      Truth: Man-made laws do not take precedence over God’s laws and as such, the above acts are contrary to the righteousness of God. Humans can legitimize (and make laws for) all the evil they want but it is still evil.

    Mr. Skelton Cline while I hear you, I would like note a few items. I think all involved need to sharpen our reseach skills and keep a pace with the world. If these same sex marriage is a human right issue there is nothing we can say or do about it. Infact if you read the US news the United Methodist churches in the US with over thirty million followers have split because some of their pastors are for and some are against. Who can remember one of our past Legislators speaking in the HOA about it bringing a lot of money into our economy and some of our present Legislators are of the same view. To take it further, it is alleged that some of our local Bishops have already performed same sex marriages for their money of course. The Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil and judgement will first start in the church. The Bible also says that perilous times shall come. Some churches now a days do not preach salvation, Heaven and Hell. They only motivate their followers by saying things to make them laugh and want to stay. These are evil days and most of the churches are about business. The Bible also says when you see these thing look up for our redemption draweth nigh but the end is not yet. You as a Bishop should know that we are not fighting against flesh and blood but spiritual wickedness in high places. We need not worry about what the UK nor any other K bring upon us, we are to look to the Heavens from when cometh our help. These are evil days and you and others know it. We must all keep focus.
