ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – For the Territory to grow, politicians must not pull down another's efforts to look good in the eyes of the public because it could be self-destructive, warned former Minister for Education and Culture and 1st district representative, Hon. Andrew Fahie in the House of Assembly on December 21, 2011.

He was at the time speaking about the education system and maintenance of schools.

“We must understand that if we are going to build this great little nation, let us not put down one another to build up ourselves, let us make sure that we respect the efforts of others and when you respect that, process can move forward,” Hon. Fahie charged.

According to the former education minister, the best way to do anything is to continue to build on what was met. “The good you meet, you continue to build. You could set your programmes and set your house in order how you want to see it...but to shove back the work of anybody before Madam Speaker is not wise because in the opening of the House when we sworn in I mentioned four things the people of the 1st district taught me. If destruction is your motivation, your motivation becomes your destruction. Madam Speaker, these are lessons I have learned and today if it’s for me to relearn them or for me to be enforce on them I pass them on to my Honourable colleagues,” the 1st district representative stated.

Whether it was a subtle sweep at the new Minister, Hon. Mryon Walwyn’s statement on December 19, 2011 on the education system, is anyone’s guess. Hon. Walwyn had stated that maintenance in the schools is a problem. “My recent visits to some of our schools have highlighted a number of issues. Neglect Madam Speaker have led to very poor physical facilities and Madam Speaker it is important for the teaching and learning process to have our teachers and students in safe and comfortable environments. This must be an area of priority going forward into the New Year Madam Speaker,” Walwyn had declared.

However, the 1st district representative pointed out that maintenance of schools is an on-going process. He gave an example of the refurbishing of the Elmore Stoutt High School bathrooms in the summer of 2010 where “you could have eaten off the floor” but said by January of the following year, it was a sight to behold.

“We could not imagine it was the same bathroom,” Hon. Fahie added.

myron, I am all the the signage to be removed; however, you went about it the wrong way. As a result, the Principal, students, staff, donors and the general public should get an apology

I had enough of hearing who did Dancia this & that. The woman failed herself, the Ministry of Health, the 8th District & the people so stop blaming Fahie for something she did herself. Also the VIP did themselves bad. Blaminig Fahie is ignorance. Lastly, Myron go back to school & learn how to be respectful. You out of place Myron!

Stop your nonsense! Let's move on! Dancia and Vincent mash up themselves so stop blaming Fahie. Dancia had a Ministry and a District and she treated them both the same...with no respect. As a result what she sowed she reap. As for Vincent everyone except him knew he wasnt going to win so blaming Fahie for these people is pure foolishness. Let them blame themselves.

Myron do not have the ability to function as education minister. Yea, he went to law school, but check out the repuation of the school he attended. Secondly, if he did have the ability, his first and priority should be to review and update the curriculum, come on, enough with being power hungry, our children are being left behind.
