ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The management of LIME has made it abundantly clear their position as to their readiness with LTE (Long Term Evolution) as they await the green light from the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC).

LIME has had a long wait in order to receive the permission of the TRC to utilize the most technologically advanced systems of communications, LTE being one of those.

The hold-up has to date been on the shoulders of the TRC. Yesterday morning August 2014, at a press conference called by the Chief Executive Officer of Cable and Wireless, the mother company of LIME BVI Mr Phil Bentley, General Manager of LIME BVI, Mr Sean Auguste indicated their position.

“We know where we are with LTE. The TRC, I am hoping, will solve the LTE issue shortly where they would be awarding the spectrum,” said Mr Auguste.

He further stated that LIME is committed to improving the quality of service in the Virgin Islands. “…So we are awaiting the assignment of the spectrum and then we can take the plans further but surely the investment in LTE the improvement of mobile network making it, keeping it at world class is very, very high on our agenda,” Mr Auguste noted.

LIME’s position is that they have answered the call for broadband, they are making the investments on the international capacity coming in even as they await the awarding of the spectrum for LTE so they can proceed.

CEO Mr Bentley added that why they are relying on LTE is because of the simple fact that it is a faster download system.

“…It’s a faster download speed than 4G, we have it in Cayman for example and we saw an increase of 37% in growth in data download, so I think the customers will want it, it’s up to the regulator to make a decision quite quickly, then we could get on with the investment,” said Mr Bentley.

Mr Bentley had told reporters that the issue was one on the plate to be discussed with the Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool at a meeting that had been fixed for yesterday afternoon.

“Certainly with the Minister of Telecoms we would be emphazing that we are here to invest and to create jobs and create a modern telecommunication industry here and you as well as I know it’s so important for businesses when they come to an island the quality of the network supporting their telecoms needs,” said  Mr Bentley.
