- said it seems some persons were not hit hard enough by the monster hurricane

EAST END, Tortola, VI-It was said by many that when Hurricane Irma ravaged the Virgin Islands on September 6, 2017, it brought about a relationship among many that was never seen before, as persons united to not only relate their experience but to also begin the arduous clean-up work.

In fact, many persons engaged their neighbours for the very first time, thanks to the Category 5 hurricane.

This was also a sentiment shared recently by local author and former educator, Mrs Jennie N. Wheatley.

The 80-year-old Wheatley was speaking at the launch of the book ‘Irma Brings Love’ by local author Maureen A. Peters at the Upper Room Victory Church, Little Dix Hill in East End on June 25, 2019.

Irma brought love

Mrs Wheatley admitted that when Ms Peters gave her the book Irma Brings Love’ to read she was a bit hesitant about it and she even responded “Child what wrong with you? When did Irma bring love?”

However, Mrs Wheatley said she realised there was some truth to it because “That was when most of us, evil as hell, started talking to each other.”

Where is the love now?

But, according to Mrs Wheatley, “it is so sad after we get thirteen 5 cents again” many persons have since returned to their selfish and materialistic ways.

“The problem is that Irma didn’t hit you as hard as it hit me. So when you fix up your house you saying girl I would like you to come in but I buy some new things and your foot a little dirty.”

Meanwhile, Irma Brings Love is based on the love story of the two main characters, Tianna and Joshua, and the part Hurricane Irma played in it. It took the strength and might of Irma to bind her to Joshua, a carpenter who had wandered away from God.

The author explained that while the story is based on true accounts of Irma the romance in it is somewhat fictitious

Mrs Kayanna Roberts, in her review of the book, described it as “captivating, interesting and exciting to read.”

Mrs Janice I.F. Rymer, who had the opportunity to read the book, echoed the praises and excitement of those who shared before. “The way Maureen has written this story, it makes you feel encouraged, it makes you feel hopeful that all will be alright. It was not a doom and gloom story,” she said.

Truth is many never left their evil ways behind. Evil before, evil during and evil after.

Mrs. Wheatley I concur with your sentiments 100%.. I have seen it immediately after the Irma the way some of us were behaving towards each other.. at one time I heard this gentleman and I had to ask, my God man we all just went through the same thing where’s the love?.. I do believe that Irma was God sending us a message to change from our wicked ways and while some of us perhaps listened, others didn’t and are not listening (I made ref. To Noah and the Ark and Sodom and Gomorrah) and God will be listened to but I pray this time around that something worst that Irma doesn’t come:: God is speaking and I beg all of us to listen!.He asked us to Love Him most and our neighbor (anyone other than ourselves).. and all of the other commandments hang on these 2..to show love and kindness to another is so easy.:

we all went through it, but some of us decided to pick ourselves up a lot quicker and a lot better and that includes people with nothing such as I. People who are still crying about Irma need to get themselves together with friends and family if needed and get going again. If they have no friends and family then why are they here?

Many have no love for the Creator, so how can they have love for other human beings. It is disgusting to see people claiming that they worship the Almighty God when in fact the opposite is true. How do these people live with themselves? The word is truth: evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived - 2 Timothy 3:13. Yes, deceiving others and being deceived themselves.

To say Irma brought about a relationship that had never been seen before is totally wrong. Irma brought back briefly the type of relationship that was common before the money and material scramble started with the advent of the tourist economy. Things were not perfect, I must admit, but it was certainly a whole lot better socially than what we are faced with now. Every thing comes at a price and certainly the planet is paying the price of our collective ignorance and greed. Be careful what you wish for as there are likely to be more extreme weather events in the future.
