PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- One young man is hoping to inspire others with his selfless deed of fixing a signboard that was broken near the H. L. Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in Paraquita Bay and has called on others to follow his lead in making the community a better place to live without relying on the input of central government.

The proprietor of P3 (Paper Plastic Products), Sinclair H. Flemming Jr, said he first spotted the broken sign of the Department of Agriculture’s National Abattoir Facilities during the recently held Kiddies Fiesta which took place at the HLSCC lawns.

What stuck with him, he explained, was the close proximity of the broken signboard to the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport at Beef Island and the various travellers that would be passing it because of the approaching emancipation festival.

Using his expertise, his tools, some leftover lumber and material he had on hand, he hired a carpenter and within half a day the sign was as good as new.

Opportunity to help

“[I] saw an opportunity to help,” He said. "We can’t wait for the government to do everything in our society. I realised that a truck or some type of motor vehicle struck the structure that held the sign. We were recently building and I had some leftover lumber and material. So I decided to hire a carpenter, fix the structure, put back up the sign and brand the other side. Some lumber and a 1/2 days’ worth of work can’t kill us.”

He remarked that the point he is trying to make is to tell persons within the community that they can help without a “million dollars.”

“You would be surprised what half hour of your time in unison with colleagues can make a difference in your community or in some less fortunate families’ lives.

Pick up some garbage, help a child with their homework, teach someone a craft that you like, [such as] sailing, riding, swimming, and make productive use of the internet. You don't always have to give money, you don't even have to be well off, karma is a serious thing and with the help of others you will also rise.”

P3, Paper Plastic Products has participated in numerous charitable donations and community services actions throughout the VI and vows to continue.

All what you say is true .But the person who over that place could have put some one to do that some people only in position for the big money. The Agriculture department is a waste of tax payers money that place come as a real estate money making for some people where in this modern world you see this only in the BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS.

A lot of these big contractors/suppliers milk the government all the time and don't contribute a thing. Where are the Skeltons, Malones, Crabbes, Romneys, Clines and Ritters etc???

When the Skeltons, Malones, Crabbes, Romneys, Clines and Ritters contribute, they don't need publicity.....they do a lot more than you know or could even think. He likes to be in the camera, so let him have his time. Kudos may need to start donating instead of running his/her mouth.

Awesome! A way to go, too much of us sits back and wait for the government to do everything. Yes, it might be their responsibility, but as citizen and residents we can at times do a little too, for the betterment of the community/country that we call home. Wish to see others that can help in whatever way do likewise.

Good gesture and free publicity. Brilliant. You're a good business man and a good citizen. Too much sitting around and pointing of fingers. That's why some make it and some don't....

as with voluntary house painting in another district, people can make a difference in their community. Have monthly community meetings and discuss new projects. Notice who rises to the top as a leader and then press them into government elections for fresh blood and new candidates. There is a way to feed the new pool of candidates through community involvement. It is the only way...

I went to East yesterday and realize what this is all about. The headline pic should have shown that his business sign was joined to the same sign. It would have been impossible to erect his sign on a damage support. So did you really do it for the community or to expand your own efforts?
    • glass empty (29/08/2016, 05:39) Like (0) Dislike (1) Reply
what does one sign have to do with another, the man couldve put of his and still left the other down, then you woulda been saying "well atleast they couldve put up the other sign.

also there is a video link here showing you exacty how the entire thing looks, foriegn businesses have signs up ALL OVER and they refuse to support local businesses or the community in any way, that dont bother you, P3 put up ONE and you want to know why and if it for community.

      deman go sit down
