Waste Management Association donates $5k to Jaleel’s cause
This time the donation came from the Waste Management Association, a body of operators of waste management trucks represented by Terry D. Smith and the handing over of the cheque of $5,000 took place in the Chapel of the newly commissioned Peebles Hospital today July 10, 2015.
The presentation was made in the presence of Jaleel's relatives including his grandmother, mother and father among others who are supportive of the drive.
"I came together with all the truckers and we decided we will match the donation of Honourable Minister Ronnie W. Skelton of $5,000," Smith said. He said that when he called up his counterparts on Tortola and on Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost van Dyke, they were all enthused about the idea.
Smith said that this is not the last donation on behalf of the group of waste management operators but they will donate to the cause again in the future.
It is understood that the target for the purchase of the machine based on pledges that the family would have received from various sources and today’s donation. According to a hospital source the equipment has already been identified and the suppliers are now just awaiting the payment of the funds before it is shipped. Training is to be provided to a person who will be in charge of the machine’s operation.
Jaleel F. Cameron and his campaign became a controversial topic during the election campaign as the Government was accused of being "criminal" in allowing the young man to sell water to raise funds for a piece of medical equiment at a time when the National Democratic Party boasted of having $90 million in the bank.
