Warner and Gumbs reach Carifta qualifying marks!
Gumbs started the Meet off with three tremendous Shot Puts, each one a new PB and also over the Carifta Games qualification distance.
She first was 11.15m, her second 11.39 and the third and final heave 11.69m to move her to number 2 on the BVI All Time Lists. Her distance shattered Latoya Williams’ 16-year old Youth and Jr. Mark of 10.36m from June 1996.
In the same Event, her twin sister Teynell, improved her personal best to 9.62m.In the 800m, Warner, who ran 58.30 in the 400m to open her 2012 season, charged to the lead from gun, covering the two-lap circuit in 2 minutes 17.59 seconds eclipsing the 2:19.50 she ran on April 25 in last year’s Carifta Games in Jamaica - improving her number two mark on the all time list.
The performances of Gumbs and Warner led a slew of personal bests and the revision of the women’s all time top 10 list in four events.
Tarika Moses moved past Britney Wattley into ninth on the All Time 400m list, when she dropped her best from 57.31 seconds to 57.04.
Jonel Lacey moved to second All Time in the 300m Hurdles when she ran 45.54seconds.
2011 CAC Age Group Championships High Jump silver medalist Kyron McMaster leapt 1.80m, before picking up a 400m victory in a PB of 51.43 seconds.
Nelda Huggins and J’Maal Alexander had U17 Girls and U20 Boys 100/200m doubles running into headwinds. Huggins was edged by Sanya Penn’s 12.45 with her 12.50 time into a -2.9mps wind. She took the duce in 25.39 into a -1.4 breeze. Alexander held off Shaquoy Stephens 11.00-11.11 into a -1.9 wind. Alexander took the 200m in 22.12 secs (-1.3).
The next Gatorade Development Series competition is scheduled for February 25 and will focus on relays. That will be followed by another meet on March 3 and the BVI Jr. Championships and Carifta Games trials on March 10.
