Walwyn wins Ministers' race! [Slide show Included]

Public Service Week begins with Track & Field showdown, cheerleading competition

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Ministers of Government took it to the tracks in a ‘Ministers' Race’ yesterday May 21, 2012, during the track and field competition of Public Service Week, where Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn as anticipated by many, copped first place.

The race was held at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds following a march to begin the activities for Public Service Week.

With Minister Walwyn coming in first, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Hon. Dr. Kedrick Pickering followed closely behind. Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool came in third, Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith, fourth and Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Ronnie Skelton, trickled in last.

Each Minister of Government represented their respective teams.

Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands Mrs. V. Inez Archibald, said she is claiming no team as yet. She stated that she will be cheering on all the teams and asked everyone to represent their respectful Ministry proudly.

Premier Smith said he was ecstatic to share the moment with the people of the Virgin Islands.

Each team participated in a ‘Pep-Rally’ where they marched from the grounds of the Central Administration Building to the A. O. Shirley Recreation Ground in Road Town.

Each team along with their Ministers, were divided and recognised through their chosen team colours.

Ministry of Communications and Works-Yellow, Ministry of Education and Culture and Ministry of Health and Social Development-Red, Premier’s Office and Ministry of Finance- Green, Governor’s Group and Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour-Blue.

The Ministers' Race was followed by a Cheerleading and Track and Field competitions.

For Public Service Week, celebrated from May 21-25, 2012, Government Ministries, departments and statutory bodies will be competing in various sporting activities such as softball, basketball, bowling, scrabble, dominoes and open house.

On May 23, a Health Fair will be held on the grounds of the Central Administration Building from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. along with the annual recognition ceremony, which recognises officers for years of service, will be held at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at 6:00 p.m.

Public Service Week 2012 is under the theme: 'Public Service for Efficiency, Excellence and Innovation.'

      If the ministers didn't participate you all would have said how they feel them to big to participate. Now they took the time out of their busy lifes to mingle with the public service other then in the office, it's still a problem. Just can't please you people in this place at all.

    Good job there fellas! Instead of marching around the block for frought like a few former ministers, aryo showing people how exciting fitness can become and how fit you guys really are. Let's hope that the oppositon can follow suit and do likewise!
