-Says money will come after elections no later than March 15, 2019; Another political gimmick?

CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI - Civil Servants can look forward to receiving their long overdue increment monies no later than March 15, 2019, an assurance given by the National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL).

This announcement was made while campaigning in the Second District, Cane Garden Bay, last evening, February 17, 2019, with Hon Walwyn making the commitment on the premise of him being voted in to take the Premier seat of the Government of the Virgin Islands (VI).

VI in strong financial position – Walwyn

He said, “With all the proactive measures that were put in place before and after the storm, our country is now in a very strong financial position. And so, outstanding increments to our civil servants will be paid by the 15th March 2019.”

According to Hon Walwyn, the NDP government ensured that not one single civil servant was laid off after the storms while other countries were having similar challenges and had to lay some of their civil servants off.

“We knew what making such a decision would do to families in our country and we could not afford to let that happen,” he told those gathered at the NDP rally.

Strong Economy

He said that part of being able to solve challenges for residents is ensuring that the economy remains sound and that the Territory is in a position to finance its growth.

According to Hon Walwyn, “Now we have had a challenging past few years, but I know that the residents in Cane Garden Bay, in particular, can say that our economy remains strong. And we have the proof.”

He said that at the end of 2018, the government brought in $372M in revenue, an over-performance of $60M based on what was budgeted for 2018. Financial services accounted for $230M of that figure and this he said is the highest recorded revenue ever, in the history of this country and the highest ever recorded revenue for financial services.

Money wastage

However, the NDP has been in office for eight years, and they have refused to pay Civil Servants their increments instead, taking their money to waste on the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) wall, $40M overrun on the port development project, $7.2M on a the BVI Airways project that never left the ground among other wastage.

Further, Governor John S. Duncan stated publically the NDP 1 government had no spending priorities as evident in not giving Civil Servants their increments in years.  Furthermore, during that time, the NDP did not support the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) forcing the then Governor to enact direct rule by taking money from the consolidated funds to support the police.

It is unclear also if Mr Walwyn is being truthful about the strong financial position of the territory after the government had to borrow money to facilitate its operating costs.

He was there for the past 8 years and they were not given any. What makes him think he can fool all of the people all of the time.

I have to say that I am disappointed by this statement by the NDP. It is irresponsible, condescending and a slap in the face to intelligent voters. You are the sitting government. You had and have the power to give increments. Our increments are being held ransom by YOUR government for a vote? Wow. This is a new low, lower than the blow posed to your wife (which I thought was the lowest of low until this). IF, we vote for you, then we get what we are due? Again, wow.

Then there's the March 15 date to receive what we WORKED for. Interesting that its a date not only AFTER elections, but at the START of taxable income. Innovative so that the government in turn gets its fair share from the money already held ransom? And NDP cares about me? About this Country?

Mark's song is so right.....go sid dung!!! This is beyond insulting!!

Desperate people! Hope the voters are not wearing ear muffs and horse blinders and are not swayed by hand outs and freebs this time around.
Most unfortunate that so many people sit on their tails waiting for support from these politricians, instead of helping themselves. But then again, it is the culture they developed, so instead of voting for people of substance who can help these islands to rise, many persons vote for who will continue to throw scraps to them. And in the same manner, the greed and corruption continue to go unheeded and the powers that be ignore what even a blind man can see.
We deserve a lot more than empty promises! This party fooled me once...they fooled me twice. Wish them luck this time - NOT my vote!

What are their plan . Walwyn . Fahie . Ronnie to deal with the bias unfair oppressive system process in getting residence or belongers status . Good law abiding people living here for 30 40 yrs can't get status because they have no one to speak for them or the persons in charge don't like some people personally .. Those same people got lord of friends who can vote ....Then you have lot of others just past 20 yrs and have status .....address this.....Also labour law that gives employers the rights to send employees home for 3 months without a dime and after the 3 months they get redundancy letter ... Very in humane ...These are the issues of conscience..love of people. Be courageous ..Talk real ..keep it real. People will see you as real .......

First and foremost I must say that I agreed with civil servant 100%. This man needs to be frank with the people of this territory. Increments has already been approved so why hold us ransom for out entitlement and then coming to make it an election promise. It doesn’t matter who forms the next government, the increments will be paid so Myron stop take the people for fools. As a matter of fact we have lived without the increments for 8 long years so whether it paid or not we will continue to surprise. You are deceitful and wicked.

Well, this is a desperate man trying to save his life. It is like a drowning man clutching to a straw. If he was in the government and it failed to the Public Servants their increment then how is it that you can find the solution now. It is time for the NDP to go and allow someone else to provide the solution.

Civil servants deserved their earned increments. Some of the NDP 11 (well 10 now; may Delores RIP) elected members sat in government and as back benchers and timidly went along with all types of poor decisions, ie, repurposing $8M from EE/LL sewage project, $7.2M give away to a bruk airline, BVI Airways, $1M ESHS Wall, $40M cost overrun on TPP, wasted $MM on roads, delayed actions on BI-water ......etc. The NDP team has to also take responsibility for things they should done but didn’t, ie, civil servants increments. They all went along to get along.

Now they are promising all kinds of things that they could been in the last 8 years. It is pure unadulterated pandering. The honorable member is adept at pandering, dramatizing, grand standing, dog whistling, and chameleoning. Enough all ready.

So after NDP held back the increments they are now using it as a campaign gimmick. This campaign season has been one for the ages.

Imagine, Fahie fought this group tooth and nail from laying off civil servants right after the hurricanes of 2017. They had no money to help restore the Territory. Now they here taking credit about they did not lay off any civil servants. Had it not been for Fahie hundreds of us would have done gone HOME. Now he promising us "bribery" to get elected. We got none of the generators, mattresses, plants, building material, etc. that were DONATED for residents after the hurricane. Now he here promising us the moon just to get re-elected. If this is the plan, then there is a greater plant to implement some other measure to take it back and they WILL. This time it may be several planes full. This is what you call desperate measures!!! Let us not be fooled! These people are what you call DESPERATE!! COMPLETE AND UTTER DESPERATION!!!

Come February 25th go early to the polls and let your voices be heard, loud and clear. Send a strong message!
