Vote VI's Wattley for Morgan State Athlete of the Year
The Awards Banquet is slated for May 25, 2012 at the Student Centre on the Campus at MSU and Wattley is one on a very short list up for recognition for her efforts over the past 12 months.
Whilst the current Poll may be unofficial, Wattley is out on front on 68%, but now would be a good time to support a true VI Ambassador of her chosen sport.
For the record
Brittany Wattley and her team mates ran 46-06 in their heat of the 4 x 100 college relay at the Penn relays and finished second in the ECAC race over the same distance with a time of 46.12.
They also ran 1:37.47 in the ECAC 4 x 200 to finish first having run 1:36.83 in the heats.
In the 4 x 400, Wattley helped her team to a 3:43.83 time which was non-advancing to the final.
Previously, the Lady Bears outdoor track and field team had hosted the 9th Annual Morgan State Legacy track meet and placed second overall under the unexpected great weather that held up until the end at Hughes Stadium.
Lady Bears’ Britney Wattley, Teyanna Green, Charisma Green, and Ekundayo Sogbesan made up the 'A' team that captured first-place in the 4X100 meter relay with a time of 45.43. The same team also finished fourth in the 4X400 meter relay with a time of 3:45.01.
Ekundayo Sogbesan placed second in the 400 meter dash in a personal-best time of 53.71 and came in third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.97, also setting a personal-best. Teyanna Green placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.69. Green was followed by Britney Wattley, who finished fourth in a time of 11.70.
Back in March of this year, the Lady Bears had four places in the top 10 of the majority of events they participated in during the ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championship. Wattley ran a personal best in the 200-meter dash in a time 24.47. This personal best placed her 6th overall. She also ran a personal best in the semi-final of the 60-meter dash, in a time 7.52, and placed 6th overall in the finals of the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.59.
Despite losing her domestic 100 metre record to Nelda Huggins recently, Wattley has been going quietly about her business as one of the unsung women of VI Track and Field but has some great stats and would be a thoroughly deserving awardee of the 2012 Morgan State Athlete of the year award
So Vote now!
