ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Co-Host of the Conrad Maduro show, Ulric Scatliffe has issued a call to Virgin islanders to become more involved, urging them that there is no need to be afraid of speaking the truth about societal ills and things affecting them in the territory.

Meanwhile, host of the programme, Conrad A. Maduro said people of the Virgin Islands have to stop being cowardly and take a stand.

“We are intelligent people but what we showing is we are being cowards, and as the world knows I have not met any coward BV Islanders in my lifetime until now, if I am correct in saying so,” he remarked.

Both men were speaking during the sixty-minute programme on ZBVI 780 AM on Saturday October 1, 2016.

Time to get serious

Both were of the view that it is time for locals to be more serious.

“Virgin Islanders I think you have to get a little more serious in what you doing and how you do it and get out there and get yourself involved. You don’t have to be afraid, we just have to speak up and speak the truth” Mr Scatliffe said.

He drew reference to Jesus Christ who spoke the truth and was crucified for it.

“So who are you, who are we? I am saying that to say if you believe in something you just go out for it and when people see that you believe so strongly they will follow you, they will support you. But when you just talking and not showing any real good sense of what you saying, then they will just say you wasting their time. I think the time has come when we really have to come together and do what we have to do.”

Join forces

Mr Scatliffe continued “Because together you are strong, divided you fall. If you believe that you can do something on your own and believe that you are going to get it done, it’s not going to happen.”

The talk show co-host pointed out that while they faithfully week after week bring to the fore issues affecting the country and while some may reject it, there are others who want to do something but are holding back due to one reason or the other.

To those who are afraid he had this to say to them: “There are a number of you listening out there who would want to get involved and you are afraid because of your job, affiliation and what not. Nobody can trouble you, you have to rise to do what you want, don’t be afraid, because if you don’t stand for something you fall for anything.”

so why don't you two brave ones go and do as you preach and stop hiding behind the microphone??! Then we will be motivated to join you in the cause.. didn't a few years ago in China one brave man did in the path of a tank and halted the intention of the powers that be? So go and do and we shall support you.

I believe what you are saying. People here have to take a stand and stand up for their rights. Everyone stand tall and unite as one. We all take a stand and shut down Tortola for a day, what can they do.

But you see, one day is not likely to be sufficient. If protesting, you have to be prepared to protest and march for as long as it takes to get the desired results. It may take days, weeks or months. If entering into a protest, you need to decide if you are in it to win it or if you are only willing to go so far and call it quits.

Governments count on people calling it quits after a short period of time. They go back to their normal routine and it all blows over. What's the point?

Cowards. Wow. Cowards.. Does the definition of Cowaed means lack of courage? We definitely afraid of something. Or maybe we don't want to lose our comfortable life style. Or maybe we afraid to fight along side others who will run and hide when the pressure come down.

If you think so, then that is the time to protest to force change. Don't just say it, be a part of it!
For those who listened to the elections last time, the NDP behavior is not a surprise. Nor is the spending,
secrecy, lack of transparency, self-importance or benefits. There is no master plan and they have lost sight of the
bigger picture and ALL the socio-economic societies. So be brave and change the leadership.

This begins with small district meetings to identify the problems, then have a larger meeting with representatives of each district (with the meeting open to the public). Then identify emerging leaders to support. It is the only way to get fresh blood who recognizes the social concerns. Now THAT takes courage!!
