ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islands Search and Rescue, divers from Sail Caribbean Divers and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Marine Unit continued their search yesterday, April 8, 2019, for a missing male visitor who reportedly went swimming in the waters off Cooper Island on Saturday afternoon.

The RVIPF in a press release noted that “The sons of 71-year-old Patrick William McLelllan of Florida, USA recalled their father stating that he was going for a swim near their chartered catamaran while they snorkelled around a reef near Cooper Island. When they returned to the boat, their dad had not returned.”

A search of the boat, surrounding waters, nearby vessels and on Cooper Island itself turned up nothing.

Several teams engaged in the search Saturday night however due to poor visibility that search was called off until early Sunday morning. The missing visitor was still not found.

The McLellan family was sailing aboard the 52-foot Catamaran Rumba moored northwest of Cooper Island when the 71-year-old went missing.

My heart goes out to the family, please use the buddy system when swimming or snorkeling in the sea.
