VI's whites must 'lend voices' against racial injustice- Skelton-Cline
'When we talk about white and black, we are not talking about skin colour simply... we are talking about a system, an institutionalised system that has been perpetuated, that pits one race against another and provides one race a certain privilege and power," he said on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
Time to show solidarity
Mr Skelton-Cline was at the time a guest on the 'Umoja' show, on ZBVI 780 AM alongside Mr Cromwell Smith aka 'Edju Enka' where he also said many of VI's caucasian residents understand the fight; however, they are afraid to stand up.
"There are a lot of our white brothers and sisters of goodwill who are right here in these Virgin Islands... we need for you to begin to lend your voice and your body to the chorus. It is not sufficient for you to sit back on your chair of comfort and ease and say you know, they are right."
Skelton-Cline said speaking up is especially important in these times, "There are some black people who will hear you better than they hear me and so I am calling on you, I am beckoning you to join your children who are light years ahead on this matter of race."
March set for Saturday, June 20, 2020
So far in the VI, a youth organised march against racial injustice has since been scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2020, beginning at 2:30 pm at Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town and ending at Queen Elizabeth II Park.
The march was sparked from the death of African American George P. Floyd Jr, 46, who was killed on May 25, 2020, when a white Minneapolis officer pressed a knee on Floyd’s neck for about 8 minutes and 46 seconds before he died, sparking racial injustice movements around the world.

I say leave our caribbean people alone, send them South Africans and Europeans home.
Yes, there is racism in the VI. Locals bending over backwards to accommodate Whites cause it to fester and spread. Oh yeah, there was help from some self-hating Uncle Toms. It is time to root racism in the VI. Racists in the VI should feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Hear is a news flash. There is a false equivalency with any friction between locals and residents from the southern Caribbean islands and the attitude of Whites against residents of African descent. By the way, the term “island People” has nothing to do with being from an island or continent(clearly the VI is a chain of islands) but rather the term is a direction reference., eg, down islands(south). And with a 130+ different nationalities, the term has expanded. Nonetheless, let’s turn out and support the BLM march tomorrow. Well, don’t expect too many Whites to show up. One is quicker to sight green mules streaking across the sky.
It is high time we adopt the Cayman Islands model regarding work permits with set timeframes and no renewals thereafter.
When will the Minister of Labour really protect locals & tackle this longstanding issue?
Also, whites especially from the UK etc., segregate they only came here for the big remuneration packages, lovely weather, sea & sand. There care nothing about us! only the cats & dogs then they are up in arms
