ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - One more practice session last night in the small Dutch town of Lisse, and then Nateschon Thomas and the Great Britain Baseball Team will be counting the hours until the start of the European Championship tonight, Friday September 9, 2016.

Thomas and his team GB colleagues will face the home team Netherlands in the featured evening game, as the tournament gets underway in Holland.

History will also be created as it will be the first time a Virgin Islander will be playing in the European Championship.

This will come on the heels of the Major League debut of Virgin Islander Jharel L. Cotton who led Oakland Athletics to a 4-1 win over Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday September 7, 2016.

GB Head Coach Liam Carroll was appointed shortly after the team last played in a European Championship in 2014 in Germany and the Czech Republic, and for him, the chance to actually manage a meaningful game has been a long time coming.

“I’m excited!” Liam said, after watching the GB team draw 0-0 in a final scrimmage game Thursday night against an up-and-coming Dutch second division club team, Onze Gezellen, at their beautiful new ballpark near Haarlem.  “After all this time building the programme, it will be a relief to be on the field with 25 players and a game to play!”

The team has had two scrimmage games this week, one against Sweden, which they lost 1-0, and then last night’s game against Onze Gezellen, but both games were short and played under special conditions.

Games schedule

Team GB will play the Czech Republic on Saturday, Germany on Sunday, Sweden on Monday and Russia on Tuesday to complete the opening round-round.

Those teams make up Pool A, while Pool B consists of Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Croatia and Greece.

GB’s games against the Netherlands and Germany will be broadcast live on meinsportradio.de, the leading German online sports radio station, which has acquired exclusive radio broadcasting rights for the event.

The game against the Dutch will start at 6:00 P.M. UK time on Friday September 9, 2016 and the game against Germany will start at 2:45 P.M. UK time on Sunday.

To Ex-pat, if u are speaking about other sports, u maybe right, but if are speaking about baseball u are dead wrong, Santo Domingo is the place our young baseball players should be looking, right now we have two young guys down there, one already been seen by the Yankees and the other awaiting a scout from the Orioles i think to be scrimmaged. Shadow needs to revisit Santo Domingo, as I heard he was once being pursued by the Chicago Cubs down there when he was younger, but he could not afford to migrate there, he can now, and he is not that old, but I must say congratulations to him, well deserving!

I am actually shocked that GB and these other countries have a national baseball team, never heard the game even played over there. Would have been more meaningful if it had been in America, Cuba or the Dom Rep

Our players will quicker shine over in the UK because the game is new there and besides we are citizens of the said country.
