ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As part of his 2021 New Year’s Message, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) says the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic has reminded the Virgin Islands (VI) of the importance of diversifying its economy.

“2020 has reminded us in a very powerful way that diversification is something we can no longer postpone,” the Leader of Government Business said in his 2021 message to the people of the territory.

2020 an unforgettable year - Premier

According to Premier Fahie, “Increasing the resilience of the BVI economy, by—among other measures—diversifying our footprint and developing new industry opportunities, is a major priority for your Government as we head into 2021.”

Calling 2020 a year that will be difficult to forget, the Premier said it brought many unprecedented challenges beginning with the COVID-19 global pandemic, which spiralled into an economic crisis.

“Globally, economies were hit very hard as the inter-relatedness of routine daily activities and interdependency of countries and markets became ever more apparent. Things we are accustomed to taking for granted became luxuries overnight.”

On the positive end, he said is that the disruptions from the pandemic, allowed the VI to improve its use of technology for work and school.

“Many tech novices are now pros. Some of the measures that increase the efficiency of doing business will no doubt be retained.”

2021 a year to explore economic opportunities

The Leader of Government said in 2021, however, the territory will continue to remain on its ‘BVI Strong’ path, given its success at managing the pandemic and the growth that came as a result.

“Our awareness of the capabilities that we have displayed over the last year and how much we have grown as individuals and as a people, along with the prospects for economic opportunities and improved quality of life as expressed in the 2021 Budget, are reasons for us to keep hope alive and for us to keep pushing forward with optimism,” Premier Fahie noted.

Correct, no flu cases anywhere,no Dengue cases if you have a fever they say it’s COVIT.
The elite are laughing at us on how easy it is for them to control the world when the world believes everything they say like going to slaughter.
Even the Aborigines in the middle of the outback desert in Australia are believing the BS

Most if not all businesses will need the support of foreigners to succeed,,, The same people the pandemic,. The government immigration and Labour keeping out,,,, Diversity in the economy sounds good,, but we first have to create a way to coexist in harmony with foreigners and also with Covid,,,,,,Then diversification will be practical, and beneficial,,

To the rolling eyed, trembling lipped, knuckle dragging anti vaxers

So far the UK has vaccinated 1 million people. Mostly old. There has not been one reported case of any adverse reaction.

So what diversification do we have in mind? More fees to charge hapless visitors? Pay down-islanders less? Get more fast boats for trafficking people? Grow cannabis? BVI work force is not exactly an intellectual power force to come up with new ideas. Just look at what the Territory has come up with in its history.

What he means is the territory is broke and the anti BVI islanders propaganda that was spewed out during lock down has chased away a whole bunch of people who were spending money in the territory but they decided that the BVI was turning nasty so they picked up their large salaries and went to Cayman and Hong Kong. It may seem a good plan to empty the islands of those that aren't from here but those are the people spending the money that keeps the inter BVI economy turning over. The only people this Govt is actually working for is Little Dix, Necker and ONB because yet again we have politicians whose heads are turned by shiny new things and donations to their favourite bank accounts. Any commitments to building a high school and removing the kids from the ghetto? Any commitments to funding a proper program for all those STILL out of work 11 months later?? Streamlining the IR service so paperwork doesn't take more than 6 months to appear? Fixing the Govt building so they stop wasting money on rents in private offices for Govt staff?
