ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – President of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Carvin Malone is denying that there is any underhandedness with regard to the list of candidates and delegates to be put forward for the upcoming elections on Wednesday September 2, 2015.

The elections, expected to be a landmark one in the life of the VIP given the recent loss at the national elections and the controversy between its two most senior members, Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3), now Leader of the Opposition, and Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), is to take place at Maria’s By The Sea.

Some persons within the party had expressed concern and dissatisfaction at the way Malone was allegedly handling the putting on and taking off of persons from the list of candidates as well as the list of delegates. They were allegedly accusing him of not respecting the wishes of the Head of Delegation, who are said to be the ones formulating the list.

The Head of Delegation are said to be the 13 candidates with nine district candidates who get to choose seven plus one alternate.

The candidates are nominated by party members while the delegates are submitted by the District Heads.

Reports are without merit!

However, when asked to clarify, Malone told this news site that the information being peddled is “without merit” and that he would be making a statement to the media today August 31, 2015 releasing all details on the issue.

“I don’t know what you are hearing. But whatever list that is submitted to the Credentials Committee comes directly from each of the district committees. So any information other than that is without merit,” said Malone.

When approached for a comment, some of the party members who did not want their names disclosed acknowledged that they had concerns regarding the delegation list and directed our queries to the President of the party.

While all of the offices of the party become eligible, it is not confirmed whether the post of Chairman will see Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) being a contender. The last time this news site sought clarification from Honourable Fraser he was unwilling to comment, saying that doing so will be inimical to the party.

It is expected that there might be a showdown between the two members of the party who are in the House of Assembly, Honourable Fraser and Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) for the position of Chairman.

Posts to become vacant

“In accordance with Article Seven, Sections 1 and 2 of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Bylaws, the VIP Congress will convene at 6:00pm at Marias By the Sea on Wednesday September 2nd 2015 for the purpose of conducting the election of officers to the party, whose posts will become vacant, namely: Chairman; President; Vice President; Secretary; Assistant Secretary; Treasurer; Assistant Treasurer; Public Relations Officer and Assistant Public Relations Officer. All ordinary members, in good standing, shall be eligible to be nominated to any vacant post,” information circulated to party members stated recently.

It further stated that nominations shall be accepted by the VIP National Congress 14 days in advance from a Nominations Committee formed from among the party’s membership; or 7 days in advance from any two ordinary members of the VIP by written notice to the Secretary; or from the floor from any two VIP Congressional Members during the course of the meeting.

“VIP Congressional Delegates, in good standing, selected in accordance with Article Six, Section 3 of the VIP’s Constitution and submitted to the Credentials Committee for certification within 14 days of the date of elections shall be entitled to vote for as many candidates as there are vacancies to be filled and no more,” party members were told.

Is VIP's future in doubt?

The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) lost the June 8, 2015 general elections in the Virgin Islands by an 11-2 landslide to the National Democratic Party (NDP).

The future of the party has since been thrown into question with the recent impasse over the post of Opposition Leader with both Hon Fraser and Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) expressing an interest and failing to come to a decision between themselves over who should be Opposition Leader. In the end it was the Governor John S. Duncan OBE who made the decision in favour of Honourable Fraser, guided by certain considerations.

So that's the way how Mr alone>>>> intends to retain his seat? If i was fraser i would've never partake in that shoddy election. Beat the man fair and square, don't insert people on the list just to carry out malone and fahie wishes. some of these people who are injected in the congress are not true VIP's. They were placed there just to do a hit on fraser. them people in that VIP front office are always up to no good. This is the same method used in banana republics.

I personally supported the Virgin Islands Political Party for 35 years: it is shocking to see that this 2015 edition of the Virgin Islands Political Party just can't get off the ground: ever since the 2015 general election its one internal fight after the other: leadership real matters; how can a party that have issues governing it self intends to govern this territory...

It's the selected few which must be addressed. VIP will rise again to where it should be, a party of compassion, chosen by the people for the people.

I only wish for a tie and no tie breaker. These two men have their strengths and weaknesses just like others but they both have solid plans not only for their party but for their country.Let not there be any animosity between these two men and their supporters after the election. May the best man win though.

why can't the registered voters have a vote as to which guy should be the head of this VIP party; at the end of the day we have to go to the poles come 2019; VIP needs to stop playing partisan politics having their cronies back them during internal nominations....

Fahie and Frazier must do what they have to do, that is what democracy and party politics is all about. It will be interesting to see what will happen after the dust settles and a winner is announced. Then we will see if the loyalty of the members is truly to the party or to an individual. Will the members now throw their support behind the winner and begin to move on with the hopes of making the VIP a viable option come 2019. Time will tell and time never tell lie. Up on the ridge looking on!

The VIP has become a laughing stock and they appear to be putting on a Poppy show for all to see. It's totally embarrassing. It's like watching a train wreck. I want to look away but I can't!.

The party is merely a shell of what they once were and I don't believe ANY of the current members are capable of competently running government. I can't even imagine what poor uncle had to endure these past few years.

If they aren't able to get their act together and put forward a truly viable leader, we are destined to have a repeat performance at the next general election. Hopefully (by then) a new set of grounded, educated, intelligent and trustworthy individuals will have formed a NEW party. Ms. Penn, Dr. Dawson; I am talking to YOU!

What would happen if both Fahie and Frazer end up losing.? Then They would be just two regular members in the house? How the laws work in such an event?. I think VIP only hope, Is a fresh, bright and respected face.

@ fresh: the guy from the 3rd is the legal leader of the opposition and that was sanctioned by the Queen's employed in the territory: so big-man good in that post until next election.... have you ever heard about airing your dirty laundry in public; this modern day VIP is a classic example of that saying!!!!

    Something stinks here.
    1. They are invasive and agressive.
    2. They lurk on the surface impeding the flow of traffic. Blocking progress.
    3. Some break off in clumps and begin to rot.
    4. The rot produces an unbearable stench.
    5. Just when you think you have it all cleaned up, it begins to accumulate again.
    6. All you can do is LET NATURE TAKE ITS COURSE.

    Guess who I'm talking about.

If anyone is trying to rig the election it is the other one because his followers from D2 and D4 are the ones trying to remove people from the list and put who they want when the VIP constitution clearly states that the district committee is responsible for appointing delegates and not a single individual.
Stop trying to muck up Fahie and Malone name in an effort to swing the votes to The De--l.
