ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The opposition Virgin Islands Party has announced it will be conducting its elections of office bearers when the Party’s Congress convenes on September 2, 2015.

This is according to information issued by President of the Virgin Islands Party, Mr Carvin Malone.

“In accordance with Article Seven, Sections 1 and 2 of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Bylaws, the VIP Congress will convene at 6:00pm at Marias By the Sea on Wednesday September 2nd 2015 for the purpose of conducting the election of officers to the party, whose posts will become vacant, namely: Chairman; President; Vice President; Secretary; Assistant Secretary; Treasurer; Assistant Treasurer; Public Relations Officer and Assistant Public Relations Officer. All ordinary members, in good standing, shall be eligible to be nominated to any vacant post,” the information circulated to party members stated.

It further stated that nominations shall be accepted by the VIP National Congress 14 days in advance from a Nominations Committee formed from among the party’s membership; or 7 days in advance from any two ordinary members of the VIP by written notice to the secretary; or from the floor from any two VIP Congressional Members during the course of the meeting.

“VIP Congressional Delegates, in good standing, selected in accordance with Article Six, Section 3 of the VIP’s Constitution and submitted to the Credentials Committee for certification within 14 days of the date of elections shall be entitled to vote for as many candidates as there are vacancies to be filled and no more,” party members were told.

It is not clear whether Chairman and Opposition Leader Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) will be seeking re-election or whether Carvin Malone would seek re-election as President as both men could not be reached for comment as of post time.

Uncertain future for VIP

The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) lost the June 8 general elections in the Virgin Islands by an 11-2 landslide to the National Democratic Party (NDP).

The future of the party has since been thrown into question with the recent impasse over the post of Opposition Leader with both Hon Fraser and Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) expressing an interest and failing to come to a decision between themselves over who should be Opposition Leader.

Governor John S. Duncan then declared that Hon Fraser was the most suitable candidate for the post.

Apart from that, several losing candidates had written to Governor Duncan endorsing Hon Fahie to be the Opposition Leader.

There were also reports that some candidates blamed Hon Fraser for their loss at the elections and wanted him out as Chairman.

IF I was Fraser I would make myself look good and step down with great fanfare. Putting the country first would go a long way to saving face. If he waits and then gets fired, that will follow him for the rest of his life. But then again, people have short memories. I would take charge of my fate and make the decision. Then bide time to get back in.

@ dog; the member for the third ego will not allow him to step down...he knows fully well that he brings more harm than what good to the VIP.....he only have favour in his district; not even his own party members wants him at the helm of the Virgin Islands Party.. (Bad news). Talk that: the truth will always be an offence but not a sin

I totally agree. I was trying to be diplomatic. I think we have some better candidates with less ego.

@ OK; the NDP will simply give their poltical affiliates government contracts and offset any outstanding 2015 campaign debt: persons funding the NDP 2015 political campaign will be given options of buy up money making infrastructure (water plants) or building more luxury villas(tax free)...VIP lost the 2015 elections so they do not have access to the government purse(that was their plan but It do not work out)....

VIP lost fine. Their plan didn't work? Can you be more specific with those plans? I am sure the general public would like a good read about those plans.

@ wait; I suspect the VIP wanted to win the 2015 general elections so they could get their hands on the government purse; during the campaign the chap from the 1st kept talking about the rats going with cheese; other Affiliates of the Virgin Islands Political Party wanted to find the cookie jar...both parties intent is to fill their pockets and the pockets of their family & friends once in office at the expense of the tax payers

Dr. Dawson is definitely the best choice. I know NDP won`t like that, because that signifies the return of VIP. they rather see Frazer or Fahie at the helm so they (NDP) can be in power forever.

Put Fahie as leader and that will be the final nail in the vip coffin

We understand clearly that F***r and his gang including you trying to paint a bad picture about Fahie talking piddle about lack of trust. I worked with Fahie & Fraser & it is clear that Fahie is a better leader and person. Fraser have decieved us every time. Remember the stop light, biwater, refuse to appologise putting Ralph to do so, digicel & I will stop there. Fraser listens to no one. He is bad for the VIP and the country.

To I cant trust. I agree with you--Fahie is the better choice of the two, but I still prefer a fresh face--I will go for Mr. Dawson--Or, maybe they can take a look at Mr. Oneal (attorney)I heard he has some interest.

The VIP started failing as a result of Ralph holding on too long then the VIP put a modern day under cover Adolph Hitler as head. I can't join anyone blaming Fahie for VIP'S woes. He is a dangerous man & only persons like Fahie has the guts to tell him where to get off.

the time is right for a well organized party: VIP is dead and NDP is a waste of time, them only care for the whites and if NDP hold on to power for another 2 terms only God will be able to save the Citzens of this territory because the whites will own most of the major infrastructure in our community: can 15 persons get together for the sake of our society and form a political party...VIP is bad news and beyond help(talk that, the truth shall set you free!!!!)

The party will always be in trouble if a new president is not voted in. The founder of the party must be turning in his grave to see what is happening. You cannot play two sides and win. All of what is happening is to get at the member for the third. Is there going to be a new congress as well? Hope so. Be careful what you ask for.you might just get it.from a party that everyone respected to one that everyone wants to die. The party that brought prosperity to these islands. The older folks have died and who remain have short memories. Too many want handout.

The president and his congress could not solve theimpass for leader of the opposition. The governor settled the matter and decided the member for the third will be leader. Is this meeting and election in September being called to undermine that ruling? We will wait and see the outcome. This move says a lot about who we are dealing with. Please put country first.

the Governor did what he was expected to do, and it turned out just like the congress figured it should go. Why would the congress overturn or try to undermine a ruling that has settled what was decided prior to the campaign trail? You are talking about 2 personalities on a party, and 1 could have left this well alone to the congress. Do not fret the congress knows what to do. But tell us why degrade other persons just to get power? We understand why the scramble to hold on now though. We understand. Did you get the real reason why? I think not.
