VIP Congress votes to finalize At-Large Candidates
The announcement was made by VIP Chairman, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), today, Monday, November 26, 2018, in a public broadcast to provide an update on ‘What’s next for the VIP’ and to formally announce that the party’s Congress will be held on December 1, 2018.
No Say!
The Opposition Leader was adamant, that he, as Chairman, did not have a say in the election of the At Large Candidates but rather the 76, VIP Congress Members.
He explained that there is a VIP committee in each of the nine electoral districts and that each of the nine VIP district committees are responsible for the appointment of eight persons each, to serve on the Congress of the VIP.
This he observed, accounts for 72 persons and added that the composition of the Congress also includes the immediate past four At-Large Members that contested the previous General Elections, bringing the total to 76 voting members.
“These persons are common folks that do common things uncommonly well...They are independent thinkers who love the VI and want what is best for the people of the Virgin Islands at all times. Their actions are always one that is transparent, accountable and forward thinking,” Hon Fahie said.
He explained further that it is these 76 “independent thinkers are the ones who vote and determine such things as: Chairman, members of the Executive Administration, ratification of District candidates to contest any bi-elections or general elections under the banner of the VIP in addition the selection of the four Territorial-At Large candidates to contest any bi-election or General Election under the banner of the VIP.

Reasons are that Mr. Willock is a young intelligent man with a vision for these Virgin Islands. He have promoted the VIP through his media services for years. He has open the dark doors of the NDP through his media. He is committed to see that they not allowed to run this country any longer. Ms. Flax is activist for the 9th district for more than twenty years. She has been fighting even through her calypsos. She is intelligent and knows how to get things done. Ms. Decastro is a young brain of power and this is what you need for future generation to come. Mr. Malone knows more about the running of Government more than all of them. He has held this party together over the years. You need him for his leadership skills. These younger people could be green. Mr. Cline is doing a good job where he is and he could continue doing that. He could be used for consultancy purposes. Ms. Simpson could be hire as a permanent secretary. Neville is a very good young man, however we could only choose four. Ms. Penn had her turn and she should be a coach for the team. Long live the VIP. Forward ever, back ward never.
