ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In keeping with the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) tradition of honouring its people and recognizing the hard work of all who have made significant contributions to building the Virgin Islands, Chairman of the VIP Honourable Julian Fraser RA, (R3) publicly paid homage to other great leaders.

The VIP Boss was at the time making a National Address to the Territory on November 12, 2014 in which he outlined a vision of hope, and solutions while pointing out how the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) regime had destroyed the Virgin Islands (VI) in three short years.

Others helped build the VI-Hon Fraser

Hon Fraser told the public that “while history will confirm that the VIP built this country, we cannot forget the contributions of other great leaders such as: late Chief Minister Willard Wheatley - who took the Territory out of Grant-in-Aid; late Chief Minister Cyril B. Romney - father of our Financial Services Sector; and Conrad A. Maduro - for a working labour policy through his Labour Code”.

However, according to the VIP Leader “unfortunately, within three short years the NDP has managed to destroy that rich legacy built by these great leaders.”

Many residents and historians have been critical of the NDP for not recognizing the contributions of others who have came before them and done a lot for the Virgin Islands. They claim for example, that the controversial Education Minister Honourable Myron V. Walwyn has acted like nothing happened in the Ministry of Education and Culture untill he got there in 2011 and has created a culture of disrespect for our forefathers.

Stoutt & O’Neal giants

In paying tribute to those who have made their contributions not only to the VIP but the entire British Overseas Territory Hon Fraser said, “Our late Chief Minister and party founder Hamilton Lavity Stoutt, and the immediate past Chairman and Leader of the Opposition Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal OBE (R9), were both giants of these Virgin Islands.”

Hon Fraser now the third Chairman of the VIP continued in his national address that “they lifted this Territory from the idea of being a bird sanctuary -- to new frontiers of education, offering scholarships to Virgin Islanders, and building a modern society”.

“Despite being common knowledge, at times it serves as a useful reminder to note, that the VIP started all major infrastructure developments in this country,” Hon Fraser said.

And these include: roads, schools, airports, bridges, potable water, clinics, electricity, ports development, telecommunications, financial services, community centers, progressive legislations, and tourism thereby, lifting our people to affluence and prosperity and creating a harmonious society, according to Hon Fraser.

Former first lady Rev O’Neal was there!

In paying homage to the first Premier of the VI, Party Chairman Hon Fraser said, “I join the Territory in paying tribute to Hon. O'Neal for his invaluable contributions to the development of these Islands, and would also like to recognize his wife: Rev Edris O'Neal, for her unwavering support over his many years of service.”

VIP history & legacy of recognizing our people

The 42 year old Virgin Islands Party has a solid history of honoring the people of the VI by naming important land marks off them.

It was the VIP that named the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Pariquita Bay, the Roger Allen Hodge Park in Sea Cow’s Bay, the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town, Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cow’s Bay, the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport in Beef Island, all schools after education stalwarts from Bregardo Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda to Alexandrina Maduro, Enis Adams, Ebenezer Thomas, Enid Scatliffe and Francis Lettsome on Tortola.

He saw, he got jealous of some and their accomplishments and started to destroy what done built. Meen want to hear nothing from this want to be Premier.

LAVITTY and NOEL LLOYD must be turning in their graves, seeing what has become of the poor BVI. VIP and NDP are the blame for their thrashing around and no rest.

May 14th 2015 will mark the 20th anniversary of the late Chief Mininister, H.Lavity Stoutt's death. While we appreciate the acknowledgement of his contributions and the undisputed fact that he was the father of the modern BVI, it is politically tacky where every four years there is a need to use his name for political mileage. I have come to this conclusion because outside of election season; it is not the case. It is also obvious because the celebration of the holiday his honour goes by without the attendance to or recognition of from a majority of these same persons. Acknowledging the holiday would be a valiant effort of paying homage him.

I beg to differ on Mr. Frazer having similar qualities as those of Mr. Stoutt's.

I don't have to back xxxx up, Fraser has to. And so far, since 1999 he has not.
Please don't let your blind devotion to Fraser cloud your judgement (and the facts), Fraser may prove better than Ralph (hell, anyone could) but he is no HLS.

Thanks for the reminder Mr. Fraser. You were in New York drinking Starbucks while these guys were building the country. Tell us what YOU have done to merit us voting you in as our Government with you as Premier. The answer is NOTHING! If you had a record to run on, you would not keep milking the legacies of these men. Run on your own merit. By your rules we should vote for Preston, Palmer and Peggy because they are HL Stoutt's offspring? This is pure nonsense. We ALL laud our past leaders and remember the current NDP were VIP of the past under stoutt so what's your point sir? Run on your own record. I don't hear the NDP bringing up the Late Paul P. Wattley name every minute to score points. He did well in his time and now they have their own record to run on.. I want to see a list of achievements from Mr Fraser with his 14 years in elected office, 8yrs as a Minister. Let us see the facts please.

Thank you for talking sense! One of HL's offspring ran last elections and did not use his late father's name like these yahoos are doing right now. Campaign on what YOU have done Fraser and what you intend to do for the BVI and its people. This line of politics shows you have no substance and the people are not swallowing this rhetoric!

Actually that light would have worked well in collaboration with the Clarence Thomas Admin Drive and Treasure Isle lights. somehow the traffic gets heavy right by that same round-about. But it's none of my business...sipping my tea. by the way Fraser put up the others you know, please tell us how those are working. it's seems like let there's a plug on Fraser on the stop light, the wall and this harbour development. He did so much good, why not mention those things too so we could use out own balance scale. BIAS.

Sorry but this is a poor attempt of saying that Fraser will carry the torch of the VIP! He is in no way a comparison to Mr. Stoutt; not even close!!!! He maybe the chairman according to the blind VIP voting congress but the people of the VI is not swallowing this crap! Furthermore, Andrew would have been a better option either! You can't put a plate of $hit in front of us the people and expect us to gobble it up! We tired of the rhetoric; tell Fraser to highlight what positives he has done for the country as a whole; not just his district!

Sorry mvw & Sb sooooo sorry that you have to spend all your audit days blogging the same ole silly, soupiness, played out, tire, boring, rejected things from VINO to BVI news.

The fact of the matter is your days are numbered and the people will get rid of you both come next election…your blogs over and over will not change the facts that mvw has done nothing for education but insult the people and be wicked and divisive…heard he got a spy in the VIP meeting hahahaha another sign of desperation
