Vincy murder suspect refuses to give DNA sample; Remanded
An unrepresented Williams made his first appearance before Magistrate Chrislyn Benjamin at the John’s Hole Magistrate’s Court , Tortola, today, May 28, 2019. He is accused of murdering Lettsome-Green on the evening of May 26, 2019.
Lettsome-Green was shot and left on the road at George’s North Side, Tortola. She was transported to Peebles Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Williams, 37, a native of St Vincent and the Grenadines residing at Great Mountain, Tortola, was charged with the murder at 5:00pm on Monday May 27, 2019.
Victim allegedly said she was raped & shot
The court was informed that around 8:50am neighbours heard 2 gunshots and a woman scream. Minutes later, a woman was driving down the road and noticed a bloodied woman on the side of the road. The injured woman allegedly related she was raped and shot.
According to Crown Counsel Nick Saunders, investigations proved that Williams dropped off his “child mother” and daughter at a laundromat shortly after 5:00pm on the day in question. He then picked them back sometime later that afternoon. Saunders further said the “child mother” noted he had changed his clothes and the daughter noted his hair was wet and a towel over his shoulders. Wet clothes were also found in the bathtub of William’s home.
Questioned about his whereabouts during the time of the murder, Williams reportedly told police he was home.
Accused refuses to give DNA sample
The court was also told that the accused refused to give to police a sample of his DNA.
Investigations continue into the heinous murder that has shocked the Virgin Islands.
It was also noted by the Prosecution that in 2018, the victim had applied for a Restraining Order and was granted it in January of this year.
Meanwhile, at one stage as allegations were laid out, the accused burst out “that’s a lie.” He was cautioned that he was not allowed to say anything.
Williams was remanded to prison until July 24, 2019.
