ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Jason Francis and Jessica George, both dish washers at Village Cay Marina, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Valerie Stephens today September 5, 2012, at the Magistrate’s Court, to charges of assault brought against them by the Crown.

Not guilty pleas came from Mr. Francis for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and Ms. George for common assault.

Allegedly, On February 16, 2012, while both Mr. Francis and Ms. George were washing dishes side by side, Mr. Francis bent over to pick up some more dishes, and accidentally hit Ms. George with his elbow to her chin.

Crown Counsel Sara Benjamin, while reading the facts of the matter, stated that allegedly, Mr. Francis quickly told Ms. George “sorry”, but she punched him in the face, where he then retaliated, put down the dishes and began boxing her in her face.

The court understood that both were taken to the Manager of Village Cay Marina office, and as they began to explain to the manager what happened, Ms. George got upset, all over again and allegedly tried to attack Mr. Francis.

In a statement given to officers by Ms. George, she told them that Mr. Francis constantly interferes with her at work and that he intentionally elbowed her, that’s why she retaliated the way she did.

Mr. Francis told the officers that he did elbow her by accident and then told her sorry, but she hit him in his face.

The matter was adjourned until October 12, 2012.
