GREENLAND, Tortola, VI – The Vikings and Grenada were tested, but held their nerves at Greenland on Sunday May 4, 2014, to remain on course for a place in the finals of the Digicel Twenty/20 Cricket Tournament.

Undefeated in their three previous games, the Vikings defeated Jamrock by 8 runs while Grenada was triumphant by 7 wickets against the New Testament Church of God (NTCOG), all matches played at the Greenland Recreation Grounds.

In the first match, Vikings won the toss and elected to bat against Jamrock, who are still searching for their first victory this season. Stumped by damp pitch conditions and greedy bowling from Jamrock, Vikings struggled to 142 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Captain, Richard Fredericks, the leading batsman in the tournament, top scored for Vikings with 28 crucial runs from 30 balls. Johnny Bailey suited up for the ‘Orange Men’ for the first time this season and he added 27 runs.

Condell Talle snatched 3 wickets for 33 runs bowling for Vikings, while Dwayne Gordon picked up 2 wickets for 33 runs.

In reply, Jamrock started steadily and were 86 for 3 in the 12th over before being bowled out for 134 runs. Talle led the run chase with a valiant 49 runs from 30 balls, an inning that included 6 fours and 3 sixes. Uroy Willory added 23 runs, but the rest of the batsmen found difficulty navigating the slow, turning overs produced by Fredericks, Bailey and Winston Davis. The trio accounted for nine of Jamrock wickets, splitting the workload with three wickets each.

In the second game of the day, Grenada won the toss and sent NTCOG to take first strike. Orlando France stroked 3 fours and 3 sixes for 42 runs from 33 balls while Trent Belfon contributed 31 from 14 balls as NTCOG 169 from their 20 overs.

Kittason Francis bowled 4 for 32 runs and Rasual Manicore ended with 2 for 23 runs to lead the Grenada bowling attack.

In reply, Grenada cruised to victory in 16.1 overs led by the solid batting from opener, Raymond Charles who produced 3 sixes and 6 fours for 57 runs from 45 balls. He shared a 98-run first wicket partnership with Thomas, who added 48, 8 fours and 1 six.

Derol Redhead made 38 not out, 1 six and 7 fours from 18 balls.

The final two weeks of the Super Six stage is set up to be a thriller with a lot riding on the Cavaliers/Grenada encounter this weekend.

A loss by the Cavaliers and they will be out of the competition, whilst a win for Grenada puts the heat on the Vincy, who would need to win both their remaining games to stand a chance of being in the Final again.
