ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Warner University men’s basketball team rolled past DeVry University 76 -31, in their non-conference finale on Thursday January 17, 2013, at the Turner Athletic Center in Florida.

The Royals led by 19 at the half and outpaced the Skyhawks by 22 in the second half to collect their twelfth win of the season 76-31. Halstead Chiverton was the game’s leading scorer with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. The senior also grabbed six rebounds and had four assists. Ray Victor finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season. Both of the star players are Virgin Islanders.

The Royals are now 12-8 on the season and finish non-conference play with an impressive 11-3 record.
The combination of Chiverton and Victor worked well in the first half as the two players combined for 21 of Warner’s 39 points.

Defensively the Royals forced seven more DeVry turnovers and finished the game with nine steals including two from “JR”. Chiverton also added two blocks to his nights work whilst Victor had three assists and one block.

On the previous Tuesday the Royals had battled arch rivals Northwood University in Sun Conference play. The game went down to the wire when the Royals trailed by three with less than 10 seconds to go but could not convert in the final seconds and dropped their fifth league game of the season (1-5) and eighth overall (11-8).

It was fast paced first half for both sides as the game got under way in the Turner Athletic Center. The Royals scored the first four points of the game and led by as many as five at the 14:38 mark before the Seahawks came back to knot things up at 15-15. From there, Northwood took over and ran out to a nine point lead, 26-17, with 10:25 left in the first half. The Royals shot 50% from the field in the first half and narrowed the deficit to two, 43-41, going into halftime.

Victor was on fire in the first half and scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

The Royals came out of the second half and battled the Seahawks to two ties in the first five minutes. However, the Seahawks maintained their advantage the entire half and led by as many as 13 at the 10:29 mark. The Royals kept attacking and continually chipped away at the Seahawk lead before coming to within one point, 80-79, in the final minute but free throws kept the game just out of reach. Northwood connected on 15-of-19 free throws in the second half including 4-for-4 in the final 30 seconds to prevent the upset.

Victor finished with 17 points before fouling out in the closing minutes of the game. He also had two rebounds and an assist whilst Chiverton contributed 7 points, 3 rebounds, one steal and one assist.

The Royals get back into Sun Conference play on Saturday night, Jan. 19, when they travel to face No. 9 Embry-Riddle University at 7 p.m. The Eagles (16-5, 3-4) are currently on a four-game losing streak after starting the conference season 3-0.

What really makes him a superstar or any other University attendee a superstar?? Just because he excels greatly in a sport he loves at his current University? There are many other people who have excelled within their University which is not sport with hire achievements who returns home and are treated the same so what’s your point!! You earn your own respect and the respect of others.............He is doing great and as you can see the BVI is acknowledging that otherwise he's just another BVI lander who is succeeding in his dream. STOP JUDGING!!
