Victor leads VI team to win @ Battle of the Fittest in St Maarten

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A team of basketball players from Tortola and Virgin Gorda represented the territory at the Battle of the Fittest in St Maarten and came home with a win on Sunday July 24, 2016.

The team consisting of Ray D. Victor, Killven M. Samuel, Shaquille T. Fonseca, Kimani T. Stevens, Damien Ottley, Hakeem Penn, Lyle W. Duggins, Rowan Victor, R. Fahie and Shumba George was coached by Rodney Simmonds and Trevor ‘West’ Stevens.

Not only did they beat a team representing the USA in the final 92-89, with Samuel named as MVP, but Victor also won the Slam Dunk Competition as well as the 3 Point shoot out.

Victor was an instrumental figure in the West Gunners line-up that won the 2015 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball Championship. Samuel is Next's draft player for the 2016 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League.

Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands’ team came home with $5,000 dollars for their efforts.

In earlier matches, they beat Santo 106-51, Anguilla 97 – 51 and St Maarten 99 – 84.
