ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Even before the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) Boys had pulled off some remarkable victories at the Ivanna Eudora Kean Invitational Tournament, the ESHS Girls recorded their first ever win, since joining the St. Thomas-St. John Interscholastic girls basketball league.

Everything changed for the girls in the first game of the Ivanna Eudora Kean Invitational when the Lady Rams dodged a last second shot to edge by Educational Complex, 25-24, Friday evening at the Kean gym.

"This is a groundbreaking win," said Derwin Scattliffe. "This is one we will remember for a long time. We are celebrating like we just won the tournament championship."

With Educational Complex up, 12-9, the Lady Ram's Joy Victor scored the next four points, including an awesome offensive rebound and putback as time expired to give Stoutt a 13-12 lead at the end of three.

Victor was not done with the box score as she added a three- point play early in the fourth that triggered an 11-4 run. Her classmate Bianca Brewley scored all five of her points during that span. The Lady Rams led, 25-16, with 1:04 left in the game.

"Victor had two early fouls," Scatliffe said. "We decided to let her go or leak out and have the girls throw the ball long. Luckily it worked."

However, the Lady Barras Coach Derrick Miller instructed his player to turn up the defensive pressure and almost pulled off the miracle. Mahalia Edwards scored a couple of quick baskets with a Khalijah Belardo basket sandwiched in between as the Barras got within four, 25-21, at the 34.9 mark. Five seconds later, Misah Edwards stole an errant pass and used the backboard on an off balance layup.

Another errant pass by Stoutt created another attempt at the basket by Misah, who was immediately fouled; she made one of two with 17.4 ticks on the clock.

Elmore Stoutt got the ball to half court before Mahalia Edwards intercepted a pass and after two misses from inside 10 feet. The ball ended up in Misah Edwards' hands and she missed an uncontested 12-foot jumper as time ran out.

"We got very careless with the ball in that stretch," said Scattliffe, smiling. "Complex players came out like they were on a hunting expedition, swarming around us. Their best player had the ball and was open in the waning seconds. She missed that shot and we started the celebration."

Victor had a special day, finishing with 14 points to lead the Lady Rams. Misah Edwards finished with nine points, while Mahalia Edwards, Marisa Butcher and Belardo all contributed four points each.
