ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The [British] Virgin Islands has been named the most popular destination for the super-rich in 2019, according to CEOWORLD magazine on December 31, 2019.

CEOWORLD magazine said it teamed up with luxury yacht charter agency Cosmos Luxury Yachts, which plans trips for high-net-worth individuals, to find out top holiday destinations super-rich went to in 2019. “From Iceland to Egypt to India, to see where ultra-wealthy go to relax.”

“Turns out, the British Virgin Islands has been crowned the most popular destination for super-rich in 2019,” CEOWORLD magazine stated.

Located off the east coast of Spain, Ibiza is the second most popular destination for super-rich, followed by the Indonesian island of Bali, Florence, Italy and the French Mediterranean town Cote d’Azur.

Cote d’Azur is a popular 2nd home for the super-wealthy, notably multi-billionaires from Russia and the Middle East, the magazine stated.

VI incentives

The news comes as the Government of the Virgin Islands, led by Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), continues to makes steps to increase airlift to the Territory.

Further, Premier Fahie recently announced that mega yachts that sail the pristine waters of the VI will soon benefit from a new duty-free fuel initiative under the condition they remain in the Territory for three days and more.

"At this point, it is important to point out that in order to boost mega-yachts sailing and remaining in our waters, the Customs Regulations will be amended immediately to allow them to purchase duty-free fuel, once they remain in our Territory three days or more," Honourable Fahie stated during his Budget Address at the Second Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) on November 19, 2019.

According to the Premier, this will be a step in the right direction towards encouraging mega-yachts to make the VI their home port while underscoring that growth also requires the expansion of current networks and relationships.

This list has no basis, we hardly have any amenities or Luxury accommodation yet. They certainly aren’t coming for the immigration experience, the attitude of restaurant staff or the vast array of high quality restauration.

So many rich people coming to the BVI, but, still people here struggling?

Charge them more for anchoring in the BVI
Tax them heavier when they fly in their super jets
Urge them to donate more to our causes

What does this mean more than rich people see us as an easy to manoeuvre playground?
