ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- When Quinn Pascoe, a student of Cedar International School, learnt he was only one of twenty-two students from the Virgin Islands who placed among the winners for a regional art competition, he was happy but wished more students from the Territory had qualified.

Dressed in his school’s uniform for online classes, Quinn turned up at the Medical Air Services Association (MASA) Virgin Islands office in Road Town to collect his prize- a large art set.

Little did he know there was an even bigger prize awaiting him.

The art competition was launched earlier this year and the winners were selected at the end of March. The awarding of prizes; however, was significantly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The medical air bus company had staged the competition regionally as part of its corporate commitment.

Twenty-two students from schools across the VI submitted drawings. 54 students from other Caribbean countries also entered.

Deserving of a special prize

MASA’s local Director, Ms Aramina Woodside said she was happy when she learnt that at least one of the submissions from the VI was among the winners.

At a simple presentation ceremony earlier today, September 9, 2020, Ms Woodside said Quinn deserved a special prize for submitting a piece that impressed the overseas judges.

“We had 22 submissions. We here in the BVI had no part to play in the judging and we were so elated when we learnt that one of our drawings was selected.”

Ms Woodside noted that Quinn’s entry was judged 4th overall. “This was amazing so we added an extra surprise for him, a tablet, which we know will serve him well…as he is one of the hundreds in the Territory attending school online.”

Quinn Pascoe said while his tablet is special and came as a surprise, he will be making the best use of the large coloring set to do what he loves doing the most, drawing.
