- lose 0-15 to hosts in RAN North Cup

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic- The Virgin Islands were blanked by Dominican Republic when the two teams met in a Rugby Americas North (RAN) North Cup fixture at Saint George School Ground in Santo Domingo on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

The Dominican Republic completed a 15-0 win over the Virgin Islands, in a match between the 35th and 36th placed sides in the Americas Rankings.

This meant that Los Tainos claimed the maximum points exchange, gaining 1.037 points at the expense of the [British] Virgin Islands.

Prior to the match the Dominican Republic had 28.32 points and the Virgin Islands 28.23. The result sees the Dominican Republic rising to 29.36 points and the Virgin Islands falling to 27.19 points. This sees a rise in the Americas Rankings for the Dominican Republic above Nicaragua.

The VI is now ranked 36th out of 39 teams.

The fixture between the Dominican Republic and the Virgin Islands was promoted in conjunction with the British and Japanese embassies.

The triangular operation helped not only promoted the match but also drew attention to the global showpiece, the Rugby World Cup, which begins on Friday, September 20, 2019 with Japan vs Russia in Tokyo.
