VI rocked by magnitude 2.97 Earthquake
Via an update issued on Saturday, November 3, 2018, the DDM stated that on Saturday at 6:14 pm the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN) recorded an earthquake measuring a magnitude of 2.97.
The epicentre was located at latitude 18.60 North, longitude 64.64 West or just 20.53 km North of Road Town, Tortola at depth of 29 km. Information from the PRSN has indicated no Tsunami advisories, watches or warnings were issued for the Virgin Islands
What to do?
According to the DDM, during an earthquake, importance should be placed on staying calm, “If you are inside stay there, move away from ceiling fans, glass windows and doors or anything that may fall. Get under a desk or sturdy piece of furniture, cover your head and hold on,” the DDM said
“If outdoors, move into an open area away from trees, buildings or utility wires and poles,” they further warned. “During an earthquake the more you move the more likely you are to be hurt, so refrain from entering or exiting a building at the time of the impact”.
